Shane Jason Woods of Illinois was the very 1st person charged and convicted with assaulting a member of the news media during the 1.6.2021 insurrection at the Capitol. Woods brought a knife to the Capitol.According to court filings he charged a Reuters camera man “like an NFL linebacker hunting a quarterback after an interception.” He didn't stop there. He then attacked a female Capitol police police officer who weighed 100 pounds and pushed her into a metal barricade.According to DOJ Wood purposely went after people who were small in stature and didn't see him coming.In November 22, 2022, while free on bond for the Jan. 6 case, Woods was pulled over for speeding but fled from the police. He was drunk and driving in the wrong direction when he crashed into a women's car killing her and injuring two others.At the hospital Woods said he intentionally drove the wrong way on the highway and was trying to crash into a semi-trailer truck. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta sentenced Woods to four years and six months of incarceration for his part in the insurrection. Prosecutors had recommended a prison sentence of five years and 11 months.He also has been charged in Illinois with first-degree murder for the collision in November.
