I didn't realize the libs would discount, out of hand, any thoughtful opposing opinion simply because it came from Canada...
no, wait... silly me, of course the libs would shoot down, out of hand, any thoughtful opposing opinion, no matter where it came from...
Rightwing talking points.....no thought involved
OK...fair enough....please tell me which one(s) of the ten items you can say is (are) not true?
Oh yeah...and offer us the truth...dont simply say "talking point"....
here you go.
2) there an many situations where there is perceived discrimination against blacks (and other minorities). This is one of the reason for the advent of affirmative action. which is still a widely used policy today.
3) Tim Geithner does not write the tax code, nor does he enforce it. As treasury secretary it is his job to advise the president on tax policy, but in no way shape or form does he write the tax code. That duty belongs to Congress. Rangel is an elected offical, while Geithner is not, and should the people of his district feel he is doing a poor job they can vote him out of office. He would be a better example of being able to actually write the tax code however.
4) just because an extreme group use religion as a reason to kill, doesnt mean the entire religion is bad.
5) there is no talk about letting illegals have automatic amnesty. the proposal on the table was to pay back taxes and get in line behind those already in the system. not sure where magic comes into play here.
6) no one is calling people who want to balance the budget extremists. those who wish to gut social programs for the poor and elderly sometimes get this title, however there are many ways to balance the budget. one would be increasing taxes, however the extreme right cant even have an adult conversation on this matter.
7) driving a car, cashing a check and purchasing alcohol and not rights guaranteed under the constitution, they are considered privileges. in 1966 the US Supreme court rules that Poll taxes were illegal. thus forcing someone to purchase a government issued ID can be considered a poll tax. if states or the fed are willing to issue free ID's to any US citizen, the they would legally be able to ask for ID as a prerequisite to vote.
8) people have a choice on which brand of shoe to purchase. all automotive vehicle run on gasoline there are no alternatives. we are well within in our rights as for an investigation in to the rising cost of gasoline when there is a 300% increase in a short amount of time across all suppliers of the commodity. when tennis shoes are considered a commodity at which point the price of them is determined on the open market we can have this conversation.
9) due to mandatory spending and the cost of 2 wars, the amount of money the US government spends far exceeds the amount collected by tax revenues. there hasnt been a balanced budget since the 90's. not sure why the faux outrage is occurring now. budget deficits have been occurring for years. there are only 2 ways to eliminated the deficit, raise revenues and cut spending. seeing as how 80% of the US budget is spent on SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Defense and Interest on the debt, even if you were to cut all other government programs you would still fall 16% short of balancing the budget. hence it is correct to say that the US government does not take in enough money.
10) 47% of the american population are not required to pay any federal income due to GOP policies that have been put in place over the last 30 years. the GOP policy has always been about lowering taxes. well they got their wish, and the results of these policies are in fact that 47% of the population does not make enough money to qualify for paying federal income tax. so whats the bigger problem here? that 47% dont pay federal income tax or 47% of the population lives hand to mouth while 2% of the population controls over 85% of all the wealth in the nation. by basic math and reasoning, of one group control 85% of the money, you can deduce that they would pay near the same amount in taxes
