A pilot I know says that everyone hates flying into that airport. They said it’s a real cluster****.

It’s the landing from the north that makes it difficult for pilots. They have to follow the river and that means negotiating a sharp turn over the water only hundreds of feet above the ground. Takeoffs to the north have to make the same turn but it’s much more difficult on approach. Way less time for error.
This incident happened on the south approach. That helicopter was too high for that location. They usually hug the river until they clear the area.
I’ve been driving those bridges almost daily for fifty years and always fascinated by the air traffic there.
