There was also word that the aircraft was diverted at the last moments to change runways.

There were only 19 out of 30 ATCs in the tower….at the nations most busy airport.

And you’re right. That airport was OK in the 1940s and 50s, but it should have been closed decades ago. Congress critters don’t want to go out to Dulles, though, so a risky airport with insufficient take-off strips (and bridges and tall buildings within a few hundred feet) remains open.

It’s not a matter of “busy.” It has a dangerous flight path on the approach, and an insufficient take-off strip.

Remember the ‘82 crash? The pilot could have possibly realized he wasn’t getting the lift he needed and aborted the take-off IF he hadn’t run out of concrete.

The hiring freeze does not affect anyone with a start date of Feb 8 or earlier.

The buyouts only effect remote workers, which ATCs are not.
