No, "good" being defined as competent. I suppose a competent person would have their dues up to date though.
Dude, you can sell that crap to someone else. The unions are like the US government ... they surpassed any good they might have done originally with their self-supporting greed.
Union employees are clock-punchers. A perfect example of socialist mediocrity. Those of us that don't follow the herd for the promise of a pasture get twice as much done with the same quality and nobody's skimming my check.
Your statement is a perfect example. "Competent?" I don't accept mere "competence" from myself nor any of my crews. You try that "competent" shit on me and you'll find yourself sitting back at the shop wondering why there's no work for you.
You mean non-union workplaces don't have "clock-punchers" and are places of joy where everyone is happy?
If someone does a job to the quality, and within the guidelines you expect, then they are "competent". There are those that do competent work at just an adequate level, (which isn't acceptable by me either), but it sure as hell isn't exclusive to union.
I'll agree there's useless people in the unions, lots of 'em, but lumping all of them in the same boat is like saying all non-union employers take advantage of their employees, just because some do.
Also, if not for unions, and the fear of being unionized, you can bet your ass that many people in non-union places of business would be making a whole lot less than they currently do.
