Oscar darling that I watched last night

Left me wondering what the critics see in it. Bizarre plot about a group of terrorists fighting against ICE like troops. Made me wonder who I should be rooting for.

Plot was basically stupid about a group of terrorists who were killing people and blowing shit up go into hiding for 16 years and are being hunted by white supremacist Army troops.

Good actors who play cartoonish roles
DeCaprio plays a stoner former terrorist
Sean Penn a psychopath Army Colonel

At close to three hours, I struggled to finish it

Thanks. We try and watch all the nominated movies. It's getting tougher - now that they have 10. Several the movies I simply hadn't heard of.

Yeah, I hear you about being conflicted as to who to root for.
The scenes where Sean Penn is executing the terrorists one by one made me want to cheer, for example.
It was too long and too dependent on stereotypes drawn from both the Left and the Right.
False flags and conspiracies far and wide.

I did like the acting by Penn...he was a truly believable villain..and you could feel the freak rolling off of him.

If Quentin Tarantino had done this script..I suspect it would have been a far better movie.

Sinners for Best Picture--IMO~

I don't think I made it 10 minutes.

Going to watch that with this weekends snowstorm

Still wonder if I want to spend the time.
Mississippi burning with vampires

I was the same way
If it hadn’t been nominated for so many awards, I would have dropped it after 20 minutes

This is stupid….
Some of the acting was good....and I liked the mocking of Political Correctness--safe spaces and micro-violations indeed.
But the whole thing had a 1970's SLA vibe that was off-putting, to me.

When HBO ran it (before the awards) I was not even aware of the leftist platitudes being heaped upon it.

Other than Penn I thought the cast was worth a watch....I was mistaken.

Yea…the part where the terrorist ***** makes Sean Penn get a hard on or get shot was so realistic
As was a terrorist who killed a cop getting put in witness protection and then just walking away to Mexico

Now if they had renditioned her to the Sudan..and waterboarded the names out of her...I might have bought it~

Gotta give it up for Sean...if he can get it up, at that age and in those conditions...he should get an Oscar for that alone!

God knows I rarely agree with you, Leftwhiner. But I came to the essentially same conclusion after watching maybe a third of the movie. And I didn’t go back to finish that shit.

It was awful. A truly terrible movie.

And I also agree that there is no good reason to place any stock in positive reviews of that crappy movie.

They do it to me every year

Oscars come out and they rave about some piece of shit movie

I am no movie expert, but I know crap when I see it

At the risk of being objective, some of the movies praised highly by critics over the years have proved to be good or at least interesting to me. But otherwise, again I agree with you.

I suppose I just don’t grasp whatever it is they claim to see in some of these movies. Frequently, when they praise a flick, it turns out to be just a mess.

Some of my favorite movies are Oscar winners 50 years older or more. Movies that stand the test of time. I don’t see any award winning movies in the last two decades that I would want to watch again let alone be cherished in 50 years
