Saw this last night. Its very funny and very well made. But sick as fuck.
Its set in the film industry in the 60s and gives an alternate take on the Manson story.
Loads of in jokes about the industry and lots of references to forgotten films and TV shows.
A knowledge of Lancer would help. You will remember it was a second rate High Chapperal with a lead character called Johnny Madrid. (The shows are on youtube at the moment)
Tarantino has a good eye for a joke and encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture. The lead characters bring real star quality to the show. Margot Robbie in boots is a poster we should all have on our walls.
But here is the problem I have have with this film. I can accept that murder has been a dramatic staple of story telling for ever. But not as a subject for comedy. The connections of those murdered with Sharon Tate are likely still with us.
They shouldnt have their grief trampled on like this. As the film went on I felt more like a voyeur than a viewer.
I did enjoy it up to a point but I felt a bit dirty afterwards.
