There really is nothing quite like boot-strapping “independent” rural conservatives and libertarians going to Big Government asking for yet another handout. The latest example comes courtesy of Politico, which reports on the plight of rural communities losing airline service.

The story starts deep in the heart of Texas, in the border community of Del Rio, population 36,000. American Airlines pulled out of their “international” airport, forcing people in the area to drive nearly three hours to the nearest airport in San Antonio.

“Talk about a low blow,” Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales, the congressperson for Del Rio, a predominantly Hispanic community, said in an interview. “I’m frustrated to no end. … If these major companies want rural America to thrive, they need to be investing in rural America, not pulling the rug out from under us.”

Imagine thinking that “major companies want rural America to thrive.” Republicans are the party of laissez-faire economics, where business is supposed to have unfettered and unregulated access to whatever the hell it wants. And sure, conservatives have thrown out much of their “pro-business” rhetoric in their current “woke woke woke” hysteria, but demanding big corporations provide air service to communities as small as 36,000is a new level of disdain for market economics.

Look at that, those libertarian and conservative elected officials, with their overwhelmingly conservative/libertarian electorates, are now begging the government to bail them out. And if such a thing were to happen, where would the money come from? From the same places that have been subsidizing rural America for far too long—the urban cities they loathe so much.

They could always hitch a ride on one of those Amish contraptions headed to town.

You didn't mention any of these "rural conservatives" by name. I assure you that if I (a far, far right conservative) lived in a rural community ... I would applaud the departure (pun intended) of American Airlines. Ahhh the peace and quiet and a lower chance that some foreign national would visit my town and bring his "culture" with him. Win-win for me.

Libertarians aren't going to the government looking for handouts. By definition.

Advice -- Get a better source.

But keep trying, spews. Some day, you'll actually get someone to agree with one of your stupid troll posts.

Del Rio, TX! Across the Rio Grande from Ciudad Acuna. I wonder where those passengers are coming from? Venezuela? Columbia? Honduras? Guatamala? China? More concerning is, "where are they flying to?" Better idea--fund more border security in that area.

This may be pertinent in your world. But in mine? Not so much, We have the current president get millions of $ from China without explanation, the president's son on the board of Chinese and Ukrainian energy firms with no explanation. And proof Biden colluded with Ukrainian officials. We have the media ignore the massive weight of evidence on Hunter Biden's lap top in lieu false unproven allegations against Trump. End this. Just stop.

It's a war. They won't stop. Not on their own.

That dope woildn't know a libertarian from a Pop Tart.
Well, if the intent was to point out that there are precious few libertarians in the Republican party, I can't disagree. Same can be said of the Dems. But the suggestion that libertarians are promoting state welfare is sort of like saying a vegan restaurant is serving steak.
