On This Day in History

On April 20, 1986, 23-year-old Michael Jordan set the all-time NBA playoff record by scoring 63 points against the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round. Despite the legendary performance at Boston Garden, the Chicago Bulls lost 135-131 in double-overtime to the eventual 1986 NBA champions.

The truck stopped just shy of Cpl. Jonathan Yale and Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter, its windshield and the driver behind the wheel both blown away in a hail of gunfire. Then it detonated, killing the two Marines and leveling a city a block.

Shooting in the direction of an enemy is not an act of heroism.

"A hail of gunfire"?
Then it detonated,
Oh, I see. First the boys destroyed both the wind-shield and the driver by their "hail of gunfire" ...... then the CO (or equivalent) inspected the wind-shield and driver to determine they were "blown away" then dashed off to sufficient cover so the bomb could detonate? Yeah, sure!
The attack, the Marines’ final stand,
"Final stand"? Oh, sod off! How many times did the driver try to breach the gate? Is this story meant for kindergarten children maybe?
Haerter and Yale, were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for their actions,
"For their actions"? This is too silly. Either it was their job to guard the gate or it wasn't. All they did was point their rifles and pull the trigger. Were they trained as custodians of the latrine (without weapons) and were just standing in for the real guards? :auiqs.jpg:

It was recorded on security video, it's not subjective.

My point stands ➡️ It's a childish narrative and saturated with BS. The guys did the only thing they could have done, no forethought, they didn't know the truck was going to explode, and they didn't exclaim "God bless America" as they pulled the trigger. They probably said, "Oh, ****!" Let me repeat myself ..... the story is childish and it makes a serious & unfortunate incident laughable. Oh, and it is subjective - "last stand"? Give me an f-ing break. How is that not subjective? It isn't even factual.

It's all factual, and everything you said is subjective. Do you understand the meaning of the word "irony"?

Let me try to make something clear because you don't seem to be old enough or experienced enough in order to "get it". If I were the parents of those boys I'd find the editor of that article and knock him on his ass. The person who gave the order to print that piece of shyt probably watched Joan Wayne in "The Alamo" and that's all.

Perhaps you re-read the graphic I originally posted, and specifically point out the exact words that you find objectionable. I realize I should not be lowering myself in your direction, as you are not only clueless, you also likely have an ulterior motive behind your statements, but "stood their ground" and "never stepped back" are perhaps the only statements you'd even have a chance to argue, and thanks to video footage, you can't even do that.

As we said in the military, you are dismissed.

Let's start with "last stand".

I realize I should not be lowering myself in your direction,
I don't give a rat's ass what you do.
as you are not only clueless,
You don't know what you are talking about.
you also likely have an ulterior motive behind your statements,
My motive is called "truth".
As we said in the military, you are dismissed.
I am a Vietnam War veteran so you can cut the crap, Bonzo. There were guys in Vietnam who got the bullet or shrapnel while on SBD and they got the purple heart. I have no problem with that because it was "in action". But I thoroughly detest political propaganda and that is what "last stand" lie represents in this friggin' article . Those boys who died and their parents deserve better than that.

Let's start with "last stand".

I'll take some blame for that, I should have put what lies underneath the graphic as being from FACEBOOK, so yes, that is indeed subjective.

However, it was only included to give a broader context to the incident, and does not detract from the graphic that shows both of these Marines. That description included with their photograph is beyond reproach.

Did you write that article? Political/patriotic exaggeration only serves to diminish the loss of those boys and perpetuate the bull shitia that makes people think Joan Wayne was a hero ….. not an actor.
