As many of you have read here I've posted the facts that if All the cars and trucks in America were electric vehicles (EVs) there would be a 13 trillion kWh shortage of electricity. OK... say I'm wrong by 50%!!!
Say it's just 50% of all American drivers i.e. just 73.1 million drivers driving 5 days a week ONLY to and from work or 29 miles a day.
Source of miles/year by drivers source: https://www.kbb.com/car-advice/average-miles-driven-per-year/
And say just 50% of all trucks i.e. 18.8 million trucks that drive an average of 78,000 miles per year...
Facts: Ave. miles/truck /yr..source: America’s commuting choices: 5 major takeaways from 2016 census data
And again... FACTS: Total electricity generated per by all power plants in the USA is 4,165,030,000,000 kWh.
AGAIN say I'm wrong 50% of all vehicles are EVs... how much electricity will be used just by EVs, just 5 days a week???
Remember the USA Generates today 4.165 trillion... so how much more electricity is needed:
6,509,011,236,994 kWh to provide electricity for just 50% of all vehicles in the USA.
As of December 31, 2020, there were 23,417 electric generators at 11,070 utility-scale electric power plants in the United States.
At Utility-scale power plants have a total capacity of at least 1 megawatt (MW). Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) There 11,070 power plants.. generating 4.165 trillion kWh or at 376,244,805 kWh per plant.
If I'm half right i.e. 6.5 trillion kWh of power needed for just half of all American cars/trucks being EVs that's another 17,300 NEW power plants.
So again... if I'm half right that means half of all cars/vehicles WON"T be using gas!
So folks... what do you think the oil companies will do to make up the loss of revenue if half of us are still driving gas guzzlers???
HMMM??? Maybe raise prices? Remember this is what the Chevron CEO said...
U.S. Will Never Build Another Oil Refinery, Chevron CEO Says
“My personal view is there will never be another new refinery built” on U.S. soil, said Wirth. “You’re looking at committing capital 10 years out, that will need decades to offer a return for shareholders, in a policy environment where governments around the world are saying, ‘We don’t want these products.’”

The United States’ capacity to refine oil into fuel has shrunk significantly during the pandemic because of the closure of refineries. And it may never come back, says the CEO of the second-largest oil company in the U.S.
