Officer fired after video shows him repeatedly punching woman during arrest

The police chief called the actions "disturbing and inappropriate."

A North Carolina police officer has been fired after viral doorbell camera video shows him repeatedly punching a woman during an arrest, sparking protests on Friday.

The firing came after the Shelby Police Department completed an administrative investigation into the incident, Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser announced Saturday.

The officer, whose name officials have not released, had previously been placed on administrative suspension.

The findings of the investigation have also been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for an independent review of any criminal violations, the chief said.
"I want to be clear that the inappropriate use of force is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by me, the Shelby Police Department or the City of Shelby," Fraser added.

Officers were conducting a criminal investigation on Friday when they encountered a "suspicious female in the area," Fraser said.

What a coward, his ass needs to do some serious jail time.

Let's see how many cowards run to defend this coward beating a woman like this.
Sounds like the department handled it correctly.

It's so funny you whine about this, but seem to be right there with your electronic butt-buddy IM2 stupid to defend others who do the same thing but whose skin color is slightly different from this idiot cop.
SYBAU, show where I have defended any man attacking a woman in that manner. You're just a lying weak ass POS.

Looks to me like she was still assaulting him and wasn't going to stop. Just because some animal loses a fight they started doesn't make them hapless innocent victims.
The police disagree, but you're free to side with the fired cop who will probably end up doing some time.

They much prefer to hand out the heavily edited version. Most chiefs now are cowards and the towns are happy to let individual cops swing whenever some feral animal gets violent. Ot's wonder anybody still applies for the jobs at all, really, and the cop hating Burb Brats snivel about the quality of officers these days, as if they aren't part of the problem themselves.
Sooo....you're saying "F**k the police", Edwina?

read the article she violated several laws and she attacked the officer. he ober reacted for sure but was intially provoked.

Nice vague generalized reply. It says they thought she was "suspicious" and after all is said and done not a word over what she had done other than being suspicious because she was black.

There will be NO charges because the cops had NO reason to lay a hand on her.

she attacked the officer and got a beating for it. standard fair for some people, he will be handled by the proper authorities for his bad judgement, but she is still charged with several crimes.

Why hasn't this coward been charged with assault?
I don't know, you'll have to ask at the next meeting. Failing that, ask who normally would charge in such a case. I'm sure you have an opinion already set in concrete about why, so I have to ask, why are you asking me? I'm not responsible to make that call.

two of the three charges dropped.

2 charges dropped against woman at center of viral Shelby arrest video, records show

This same officer had tried to charge her with the same B&E charges before but had to drop them.

The officer has been charged with assault.
