Tom Fletcher claimed on the BBC that "14,000 babies in Gaza could die in the next 48 hours".

So did 14,000 babies die? Or anything near that? Of course they didn't. The entire suggestion was always completely preposterous and lacking any credibility whatsoever.

But that didn't stop the BBC publishing it, did it? The entirely dishonest blood libel was then amplified by the UN, Time, The Guardian, the ABC, The Independent UK, Associated Press, NBC, SBS... The list goes on. The claim was then used by world leaders to condemn Israel based on wildly improbable claims, hysteria and lies.

No fact checking was required. The claim was clearly total BS. But even 48 hours later it still appears on many news sites, who once again are prepared to believe anything bad about Israel. 48 hours is more than enough time to correct the record and stand down everyone responsible.

So why the hell does

still have a job? Why does the producer of the BBC Radio program still have a job? Why do media outlets get to spread lies which lead directly to violence towards Jews, with zero accountability?

If they'd simply said something sexist, racist or about other groups there would be marches in the street demanding their cancelling. But spread lies about the Jewish state? Crickets!

Will they ever learn? These are the same outlets that fell for the "Jenin Massacre" (which never occurred) and which nearly 2 years ago said that fuel and water would run out in Gaza and spread Hamas lie after lie after lie.

Either they are breathtakingly incompetent at their job, or they are wilfully dishonest and antisemitic. It can only be one or the other. And their leadership are just as responsible.

The widely shared statement, originally made by UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, sparked a wave of outrage and was cited multiple times in Parliament. Fletcher had claimed: “There are 14,000 babies who will die in the next 48 hours unless we can reach them.”
