The WP has the best editorial on Social Security I have seen in years.

Obama's statement have no proposal to increase revenue, and no details about how he would expand Social Security benefits.

1) There are no details
2) It is virtually impossible to expand SS in a way to help those who are poor
3) Tax increases will compete with other priorities
4) Children are twice as likely to be in poverty, and yet in 2011, the federal government spent six times as much on the elderly as it did on children. Children can’t vote.

Not sure about the statistics behind #4, but the last line is priceless.

Simply put it means the democrats want to increase the payroll tax to replace the funds they have stolen from the seniors.

Granny says, "Dat's right...

... if ya can't dazzle `em with brilliance...

... baffle `em with B.S."
Before the Iraq war you would have said we don't have the money to fix social security. 1.7 trillion dollars later, maybe we did have the money if we didn't fight that fucking war.

Funny we are always told that SS funds will run out, we are never told welfare will run out. One fund is paid for and the other isn't. Funny that.

Not sure about the humor. Not even sure about the comparison. One is an appropriated expense. One is a financial system of defined inputs and outputs. Not sure how you think welfare will not run out. Google cut-backs to Meals On Wheels.
