Well you're certainly not an intellectual.Unemployment under 5% and wages up. Thanks Obama.“Some ideas are so stupid, only an intellectual could believe them.” George Orwell
1. We on the Right hardly ever proclaim ourselves 'intellectuals.' In fact, for many of us, it is a pejorative.
a.In Intellectuals and Society, Thomas Sowell vigorously denies being an 'intellectual.'
But, Sowell vigorously defends wisdom—practical reason—against an abstract rationalism that values ideas over the experience of actual human beings. Intellectuals, he argues, are particularly suspicious of the ties ordinary men and women feel to family, religion, and country. They look down upon “objective reality and objective criteria” in the social sciences, art, music, and philosophy. Their “systems” tend to be self-referential and lack accountability in the external world.
b. As an example of "Intellectuals, he argues, they are particularly suspicious of the ties ordinary men and women feel to family, religion, and country."
“And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” That's a pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensm...own_PA_Clinging_religion_guns_xenophobia.html
Based on a self actualization outlook....who would I have a beer with.....? Hmmmm.....
The 'intellectual' who has an unbroken record of failure and incompetence...?
Let's restrict this thread to Obama's scorched earth record of husbanding the economy, the prosperity of the nation, and who promises to continue same.
2. Louis Woodhill shares some numbers that capture Obama’s real legacy [http://www.realclearmarkets.com/art...as_sad_record_on_economic_growth_101987.html].....
“America’s elites have largely given up on growth, and are now distracting themselves with academic musings about ‘secular stagnation.’ … assuming 2.67% RGDP growth for 2016, Obama will leave office having produced an average of 1.55% growth.
This would place his presidency fourth from the bottom of the list..., above only those of Herbert Hoover (-5.65%), Andrew Johnson (-0.70%) and Theodore Roosevelt (1.41%).”
What makes this final comparison so damning is that Obama had the comparative good fortune to enter office in the middle of a recession. Which means, all things equal, that his numbers should look very positive.
Instead, he’s managed to compile one of the worst track records."
The only individuals less competent than Barack Obama are his voters.
Go back to bushanomics? Trickle down? No no
Of course, unemployment is not close to 5%
1. Average unemployment rate under Bush: 5.31
Average unemployment rate under Obama: 8.46 United States Unemployment Rates by President, 1948-2016 (thru 2014)
2. "The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment
The official unemployment rate, as reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, is extremely misleading.
Right now, we're hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is "down" to 5.6%. The cheerleading for this number is deafening. The media loves a comeback story, the White House wants to score political points and Wall Street would like you to stay in the market.
While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news -- currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren't throwing parties to toast "falling" unemployment.
Right now, the U.S. is delivering at a staggeringly low rate of 44%, which is the number of full-time jobs as a percent of the adult population,..." The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment
3. "94,609,000 Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Drops to 62.8% (CNSNews.com) - In its final report before next week's presidential election, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday that 94,609,000 Americans are not in the labor force, 425,000 more than last month's 94,184,000, and the second highest number on record."
94,609,000 Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Drops to 62.8%
Obama wishes he had the unemployment average that Bush had.
And you do, too.
Averaging out the unemployment rate is meaningless as it hides perfomance. For example, a president taking the unemployment rate from 4% to 11% as fast as another president takes it from 11% to 4% will have comparable average rates even though the former is a failure. Even worse for this nonsense of your is the sad reality that Obama will leave office with a lower unemployment rate average than Ronald Reagan, who many on the right regard as a job creating dirty.
As far as the 95 million folks who are not in the labor force, in reality, only 6% of them want a job. 89 million of the 95 million who are not in the labor force don't want to work.
