The reason it was impossible, was that everyone knew it would gravely damage the country, and would do far more harm than good. As it is doing now.

People easily become addicted to entitlements. That's why so many of us hate Dimocrats. They are no different than your neighborhood drug dealer, whose goal is to get as many people as possible dependent on him.
Once Americans get a taste of having the government begin to manage their healthcare, they'll soon want more, and within a few years they'll be expecting full blown coverage provided by the government.
I'm always amazed at how many Americans there are living today that cannot seem to manage their own lives and expect the government to provide as much for them as possible.
