Obama's high court choice could be Hispanic, woman

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama pledged Friday to name a Supreme Court justice who combines "empathy and understanding" with an impeccable legal background to succeed liberal David Souter, whose abrupt retirement announcement set off speculation the next justice could be a woman, a Hispanic or both.

Obama, who will be making the first high court nomination by a Democrat in 15 years, pointedly referred to his plan to have "him or her" on the bench in time for the Supreme Court's session that begins the first Monday in October.

"I will seek someone who understands that justice isn't about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a case book. It is also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people's lives," said the president in a surprise appearance in the White House Press Room moments after speaking with Souter by telephone. Word of the impending retirement had leaked Thursday night.

Smartt: No real surprise since He doesn't like our National Anthem, the Pledge, or our United States Flag. Realizing that the Constitution is insignificant to him really was something that I expect. We will be the United States of Europe someday, I'm sure.

Since we are not a Christian nation, and we have been desribed by Obama as arrogant people, and he even apologized to the world for that, and it is actually the Muslims who have made a great contribution to the USA, I would not expect much good from this man.

Nothing will surprise me. He loves killing babies, His administration calls war Vets terrorists, and are saying that illegally entering the USA us not really illega. Everything that is not America is what he seems to be putting into place. It is clear that those who reject his agenda, and speak againse it will soon be the ones who are arrested, and the real terrorists are not even called terrists anymore.

To speak against abortion, gay sex, and gay marriage, and to say anything about muslims that is negative are all on the soon list of no...nos.

He needs to go back to his country, where ever that is.

There is great irony in calling Justice David Souter, the one true 'conservative' on the court a 'liberal.' It shows you clearly that for some, conservatism is really fascism - a jingoistic control of citizens based on ideology. Yurt and Smartt33's desire to impose on others their own belief system is consistent with fascism and not conservatism, and yet they would refuse to label themselves fascists and hide their true identity behind words. When a justice, or for that matter anyone, thinks for themselves and allows freedom for all, the likes of Y and S disparage them. Time the fascists put on their brown shirts and owned up to what they believe - and who they truly are.

Y&eah what we need is still more justices who understand that CORPORATIONS need more freedom of the individual to self actualize their profit potential.

Those pesky American citizens are really annoying, aren't they? Demanding a fair shake in this system! Who do they think they are, anyway?
