And Donald Trump is a man born on third base who ends up running home on someone else's sacrifice pop fly, but he's somehow managed to convince the gullible he's a home run hitter. No wonder he spends so much time conning the right since everyone on the left is too smart to fall for his self-serving sales pitch and need for attention.

If the right ever wants to be taken seriously again, they better start to find some heroes who have enough gravitas and confidence to make intelligent comments in a calm and rational voice and still get attention because of the merit of the content of their speech as opposed to these clowns who can only get attention by engaging in rhetorical nonsense or yelling loud enough that people turn to hear where it's coming from. If not, the right will continue to be a joke that will get plenty of attention but little respect.

I can't think of one. Even the ones who dial down the decibles still deliver lunacy on cue. Even the ones with the education and background to know better do it. All I can figure is that in 2014, they know that the core of their base is the same group of people who were considered to be on the lunatic fringe some 30 or 40 years ago. Back in those days, the politicians would certainly take their votes, but they would't play or pander to them. Certainly not as openly as they do now. But when your party is in the process of driving out other conservatives who now aren't considered "conservative enough" after years of marginalizing the last of the GOP moderates, what's left but the kooks and the crazies?

Men like Levin are smart enought to exploit it for big money. Other over-the-hill performers like Nugent exploit it for attention. And an egomanical head case like Trump probably just likes seeing his name in the paper in much the same way he likes seeing his name on the Casinos and hotels he builds or owns.

Meanwhile, at this point, the politicians on the right have little choice but to go along with it or be primaried. It's like political peer pressure is forcing even people who know better to engage political pornography. But when it comes down to content, there's nothing there. It's like going to a rock concert and watching a band with little musical talent put on one hell of light show with the volume on full. Just because your ears are ringing and you see spots in front of your eyes doesn't mean you had a good time. But what does the band care as long as their shows continue to sell out?
