Had proper regulations been in place regulating the derivitives and other aspects we would not be in this situation right now. We might not be in wonderful shape but we would be much better of if the markets had been better regulated.

Talk to the Democrats, they opposed new regulations under Bush every time they were brought up. Lead by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. 3 TIMES it was tried all 3 times it was defeated. Barney Frank was singing the praises of the Housing loan industry just weeks before it collapsed, claiming more regulations would destroy the market.

Seems to me I've read that there were regulations in place but the powers that be didn't bother enforcing them. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Bush Administratioin twice try to put the brakes on Fannie and Freddie and did not the Dems in Congress put the brakes on these investigatins??

There is surely enough blame to go around between the Govt and the banks. Seems that the only entitity that they want to savage is the banks though.

He and others are encouraged by less jobs losses then in the past when in fact the job losses have INCREASED since that last rosy picture of , not job growth, but less jobs lost ( due to Christmas seasonal hiring more then likely).

RetiredGYSGT: Way down at the bottom of the BLS monthly Employment Situation Survey, released this month, there is arithmetic. It is the pattern of Revisions.

"The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for September was revised from
-219,000 to -139,000, and the change for October was revised from -190,000 to
-111,000."

The revisions are showing an increasing trend of about 80,000 jobs per month, in the positive direction. Reversing the report of a negative job-growth likely happened in November, just following the trend. When the trend becomes positive, the super-positive is likely to follow.

What you didn't spend last summer, you may over-spend in spring. People with no income-tax liability, will be getting refunds anyway. That is in addition to the rest of the money.
