Not All GOP Senators Back 'Nuclear Option' for Trump Nominees

Refresh my memory on what Harry Reid pulled?
In 2013, he invoked the nuclear option to reduce all votes for presidential nominees from 60 to 51.

If you ever wonder why it only takes 51 votes to confirm nominees these days, that's why. Thank Harry Reid.

Four years afterwards, the Republicans promptly took advantage of that lapse in judgment by Reid.

No one would ever get approved in today's senate if it took 60 votes. Any democrat who voted to approve a Trump nominee would be "primaried". Then when you look at the clown car that Biden put up, its amazing anyone got approved. Even with only 51 votes needed its still tough to get anyone approved.

That was precisely the founders' intent. The offices for which these people are nominated require a high bar, both in qualifications and in votes.

But the left lowered the bar and turned Washington into a total shitshow.

Republicans always approved the democrats nominees in a timely manner, by looking at past approval rates.

Why Republicans put up with the democrat's bullshit is beyond me.

Just remember that democrats can use the "nuclear option" any time they want, so WTF, presidents should get the staff they want in their administrations.

GO NUCLEAR, get Trump's guys approved, knowing that in the future democrats will have the same opportunity.
Ridiculous. The entire military promotions were held up under Biden by the GOP. Multiple SCOTUS seats not ring a bell? The fact is republicans are the worst abusers of it.

Rubio got 99 votes. Aside from him everyone else seemed to be a dogfight.
Who was more qualified for DOD, Hegseth or Mike Pompeo?
(Pompeo obviously, but Hegseth got the nod by Trump)
Pam Bondi was a good pick, but even she was nit-picked by democrats.
Look at Kristi Noem at DHS, or RFK at HHS, or Tulsi Gabbard as DNI, democrats went nuts even though RFK & Tulsi were on the democrat's presidential debate stage.

There is no bar that democrats would join in for most Trump picks.
Similarly, if 60 votes were required no Republican would approve a typical democrat, even though Ginsberg also got 99 votes for the USSC.

I see your point that if 60 votes were still needed, only the exceptional nominees would be approved. But those days are long gone.

Trump will be gone in 3 years and likely a lame duck in 1.5. If the GOP has any thoughts of managing in the future they need to think more strategically. Everything Trump has done can easily be undone because none of it required legislation. There is a 50% chance the next president will be a democrat. That’s just how every election goes.

Unfortunately. The Senate doesn't have the will to undo that and replace the 60-vote threshold.

A lot. Really a lot. We should change the rules to allow us to do it then change them back if it looks like we might possibly lose the majority. Although I don't see how that might happen. I believe the very worst outcome in 2026 might be a 51-49 majority for the Good Guys.

We need to start playing dirty, just like dimocrap scum do. We're capable of it. More than capable. Republican Senators, to be quite blunt with you, are just chicken shit.
If they lose the majority, the other side can always change the rules. You are babbling!

Oh bullshit

Republicans even blocked Cabinet appointees under McTurtle
