EU hits Apple with $14.5 billion Irish tax demand

I don't know all the details of this situation, and certainly changing the rules after the fact is bogus, but it's good to see some attention brought to this kind of abuse of government power. Our own federal government should be doing something similar, to ensure that state and local governments aren't offering 'sweetheart deals' to wealthy interests.

Doesn't this beg the question of sovereignty. Can Ireland not pass legislation to attract new business without eu approval?

Apparently not if they wan to remain part of the EU.

I think it's a good thing and I'd like to see the US take a similar approach to dealing with states and local governments that play these kinds of games with their taxation power.

Apple should tell the euroweenies to go fuck themselves.

Then they would go broke as the Europeans banned them from trading in Europe. Could you afford the next I-phone at a cost of $1 million

Equal protection is fundamental to good government. The EU is doing the right thing.

iPhone sales in Europe are peanuts compared to the US. Android phones rule in Europe. Apple makes their money in the US.
