Nostalgic Depression

Yes, it is a "thing".

Here's what Google A.I. has to say about it................

Nostalgia that causes sickness, depression, or severe emotional distress is commonly referred to today as nostalgic depression. It involves a painful, overwhelming longing for the past, making the present seem void of joy. Historically, this intense form of homesickness/longing was classified as a serious illness, sometimes called melancholia.

Key Aspects of Nostalgic Depression

  • Not a Formal Diagnosis: While "nostalgic depression" is used, it is not a recognized clinical diagnosis, but rather a term for negative,,, emotional reactions to excessive past-dwelling.
  • The Difference: While normal nostalgia is a sentimental, often positive memory, nostalgic depression occurs when an individual feels their present life is significantly worse than a romanticized past, leading to sadness, grief, or guilt.
  • Root Causes: It often stems from loneliness, loss, or feeling unable to regain a happier past life.
  • Historical View: In the 17th century, Johannes Hoffer coined "nostalgia" to describe this condition in soldiers, believing it to be a physical sickness causing fevers and heartache.
If nostalgia is consistently hindering your ability to live in the present or causes deep sadness, it may be a sign to focus on engaging in current, meaningful activities or seeking professional support.

This is something I have.
I like watching videos on YT of things from and about the 60s thru the 80s when I was growing up.
Being outside every day, not being allowed in the house until dark.
Walking to school.
Fashions, styles, and fads.
Foods, drinks, and restaurants.
Cars, vans, and trucks.
Being a Mall Rat.
All those things.
But I have to stop at a certain point, because I will get sick to my stomach and depressed for the times past.
If only, as kids, we could comprehend the passage of time and the stresses of adulting.......we would have been more happy to BE kids and not constantly be in a hurry to grow up and be out on our own.
Ugh.

That's about Losers finding a term which does not make them seem Losers to those that never pause to think .

Universe is about the Eternal Now .
Not trying to do the impossible --- travel back in imagined time for Comfort reasons ,

Well good. That means you Limeys won't be trying to colonize us again.

That would have never worked anyway, we don't want to be Muslims.

OMG
You have become twisted and bitter since you realised that Trumpfy was your enemy and not your hero .

I can see that next year you whiners and bleaters will be begging for food and hoping that once again the British can walk you home .

They might help you if they are assured that north America will be re-opened as a Zoo -- a sort of Visual Corrective Centre for the mentally handicapped .

You're a perfect example of why we did not want to be your subjects, nor did any other country.

Agreed .
Our standards for useful house and garden assistants are far too high for your average American Muncher to handle. .

However , we would take a small selection of Texans and Californians , for example , to feature in our zoo .
I can imagine our children loving such comical cartoon type characters .
We would get them to speak and do spelling tests before feeding them .
