That seems unfounded.
China may not much care for Putin, but it's not for lack of understanding. To the contrary, I think they understand Putin all too well. But more than anything, China dislikes Putin attempting to assert himself into the role that China sees as rightly being theirs. China sees themselves as the proverbial mob boss of the East and wants to exercise control over their entire region. They disapprove of anyone taking action that hasn't been first approved by China itself. And they are not inclined to approve of actions that risk destabilizing Chinese interests. Thus, they dislike the fact that Putin has invaded Ukraine because it wasn't "authorized".
That being said, China has famously long and broad vision, and they are all too happy to extract as much advantage as they can from the situation. The Chinese see themselves as the preeminent civilization throughout world history, and that their rightful destiny is to be the world's preeminent power. Their hope is that enough western resources will be consumed by the war to enable them to force the final surrender of the ROC, and to expand their attempted claims to being the world's most dominant power.
