I can't agree more. Whether you wear one or not. Personally, I wear one in public.
If you don't wear one, stop shaming people who wear one. The governor is right, the person wearing one isn't doing it for political reasons. They may have a 5 year old at home with cancer who has a compromised immune system. If you truly believe this is a free country, then everyone has the freedom to wear a mask if they want to and you have no right to attack them, spit on them, cough at them or attack them.
If you do wear one, stop shaming those who don't. If you're not comfortable with being around someone who isn't wearing a mask, don't be around them. Yes, I agree, wearing a mask in public is better but you can't force someone to do what they don't want to do.
When it comes to going into buildings or private businesses, you're not in public anymore. You don't own that building. If that business or owner of the building requires people to wear a mask, wear the mask or don't shop in that business or don't go in the building. Don't physically attack people. Don't cough or spit. Really, it's ridiculous.
Apparently in North Dakota people who are wearing masks are being attacked and shamed. Which is why the governor made that plea.

GOP governor in North Dakota gives emotional plea against 'mask shaming'
“If someone is wearing a mask, they’re not doing it to represent what political party they’re in or what candidates they support,” said Republican Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota.
