Mostly because it's a canard.

Federal law does not prohibit selling insurance across state lines. Most STATES have laws against that, but some do allow it and it has right near zero impact.

Insurance price increases are not really driven by growing overhead, they are driven by growing MEDICAL COSTS.

Doesn't work that easily. Insurance companies need to build networks in areas they don't have any before they will sell insurance in those areas. The infrastructure just isn't in place, and won't be any time soon.

No, the biggest cost saving would be to get rid of insurance companies totally. Why do we need them? We don't. We could just give the govt money and then get healthcare.
