The Palestinians, both Hamas and the PA, have tens of thousands of men under arms and while they are not an existential threat to Israel, they have since the 1920's been launching terrorist attacks against Israelis. A Palestinian state would provide safe staging areas from which the terrorist gangs could launch attacks as happened when Israel didn't enter area A in 2000 after the Oslo talks broke down. You can't really separate the two. A Palestinian state would be a threat to the security of Israel and it will continue to be for the foreseeable future. If the time ever comes when the Palestinians can end their civil war and choose a government that can credibly offer peace to Israel, it may be time to talk about a Palestinians state, but that is unlikely to happen. And yet,According to Gallup, 71% of Americans have a favorable opinion of Israel and 62% support Israel over the Palestinians, so "us" means mainstream America.
Guess again, Sparky.
Gallup poll: Half of Americans back independent Palestine
Gallup poll: Half of Americans back independent Palestine
And that is ALL that matters.
"The majority of Americans remain partial toward Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with 59% saying they sympathize more with the Israelis whereas 21% sympathize more with the Palestinians. While still widespread, sympathy toward Israel is down from 64% in 2018 and marks the lowest percentage favoring Israel since 2009. Meanwhile, the 21% sympathizing more with the Palestinians, statistically unchanged from a year ago, is the highest by one point in Gallup's trend since 2001."
Americans, but Not Liberal Democrats, Mostly Pro-Israel
Clearly Obama's anti Israel attitude has had some effect, but mainstream America still strongly supports Israel.
I could care less about 'Americans partiality to Israel'.
All I care about - in this matter - is the Palestinians getting their own country.
And Americans are now mostly in favor of that...and the sentiment is growing.
Excellent.
The Palestinians have NO military and are flat broke. The Israeli's have by FAR the most powerful military in the Middle East PLUS they have nukes. Only a xenophobe and/or a staggeringly ignorant person would seriously suggest that Palestine would be a threat to Israel.
An independent Palestine is ZERO threat to Israel. They know if they tried to attack it - Israel would wipe them out.
What's next Canada is a threat to Israel? How about the Bahamas? Maybe Iceland?
Tough shit pal...most Americans are for an independent Palestinian state...and that number is only going to grow.
At present, there is no political entity among the Palestinians that can credibly offer peace to Israel, so there is no one with whom to negotiate. Given the fragmented leadership and the ongoing civil war between Hamas and the PA, it is unlikely this condition will change in the foreseeable future.
