The USS Nimitz is set to decommission in 2026, with preparations already underway for its retirement after nearly 50 years of service.

Decommissioning Timeline​

• Current Status: The USS Nimitz (CVN-68), commissioned in 1975, is currently active and homeported at Naval Base Kitsap in Washington state. It is expected to undergo decommissioning in May 2026.
