Trump administration officials are weighing executive actions to dismantle the Education Department as part of the campaign by billionaire Elon Musk and his allies to shrink federal agencies and slash the size of the government workforce.

The officials have discussed an executive order that would shut down all functions of the agency that aren’t written explicitly into statute or move certain functions to other departments, according to people familiar with the matter. The order would call for developing a legislative proposal to abolish the department, the people said. Trump’s advisers are still debating the specifics of the order and the timing, the people said.

The White House didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Good, the less federal govt the better, let the individual states handle it.

I hope it includes getting shed of the Student Loan Program too.

Let them go through free market lenders for their women's studies degrees.

Using the overturning of Chevron like this is such a brilliant strategy for bureaucracy reduction, Thank You Vivek Ramaswamy for coming up with it, it's a game changer. :)

The fact of the matter is though, the DoE needs to go COMPLETELY, not just reduced in size, it's been a disaster for American Education ever since it was created in 1979.

You mean, we won't see swastika Palestine and woke garbage?

ED is a mess. Epic FAIL. Shut it down.

Could you be specific?

So we have:
  • Title I Funding approved by Congress to help fund additional teachers in poor districts,
  • IDEA Funding to help fund Special Education Students,
  • Career & Technical Education grants to help those focused on more of a trades career,
  • Pell Grants to poor people to help them attend college and make a better life,
  • Student Loans to that all that qualify have access to funding for college and make a better life.
  • Grants to College and Universities to help provide post-secondary education.
That accounts for 94% of the ED Budget. And this is from the Trump Administration Budget.

Please point out, in Article I of the Constitution, where Congress has the "power" to fund any of this.

[Hint: It ain't there. And if you intend to use the "general welfare" wording, smack yourself in the face for your own stupidity. If that were the test, then NOTHING would be outside Congress' powers].

Specifically as we determined previously 5% of the ED budget is "overhead", that equates to 0.05 x $85b = $4.25b in savings

$4,250m / 50 states = $85,000,000 more cash available to the average state if money is "block granted" to the states, keeping the same $85b budgeted for Education. That could be used to advantage by each state, such as for vouchers, or job training, etc.

Right next to the ones authorizing the Air Force (Air) and Space Force (Space) beyond land and navel forces.

Sadly, all that information generates the most spent per student and at the bottom of the barrel for results.
