Another similarity between Trump and Biden. Trump has always been left leaning. He's always supported socialism. And now, in less than a year, Trumps support for socialism is shining through, just as it did last time.

He's wasn't really a lesser of two evils. He just pretended to be.

New student-loan forgiveness under Trump is coming. Here's what borrowers should know.

  • The Trump administration said it is processing student-loan forgiveness for some borrowers on income-based repayment.
  • Eligible borrowers received emails stating that they are expected to receive relief in the coming months.
  • The ongoing government shutdown could cause delays.
Some student-loan borrowers are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after years of payments.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump's administration began sending emails to some borrowers on income-based repayment plans notifying them that they're eligible to have their loans discharged.

IBR plans give borrowers monthly payments based on their incomes, with the promise of forgiveness of any remaining debt after 20 or 25 years. While the Department of Education did not specify how many borrowers are eligible for this round of forgiveness, 2 million borrowers were enrolled in IBR plans in the second quarter of 2025, according to Federal Student Aid data.

I doubt it actually ever happens or maybe .005 get help but it will be interesting to see MAGA come up with more excuses for their past positions.

Means based or politically based?

It was bad when Biden did this and it is wrong if the Republicans do this, the liberal Trump is taking us down a bad path. Forgiving debt with taxpayer money is nothing more than robbing the American people.

No loan forgiveness, period. You borrowed it, you pay it back.

In addition, Trump should remove the Federal Government from any loans for education. ALL OF THEM!

The only possible exception to be considered is loans for specific STEM majors. If it does not benefit our industry, it should be financed privately.

I don't know, fellas.

Maybe this is a good idea.

The federal government provides so many freebies, boondoggles, and pork barrels to mature and successful adults who know how to game the system. In the last few days of the Biden Administration his Deepstaters pushed hundreds of billions out the door to NGO's knowing that the incoming administration was about to de-rail that particular gravy train. The government may be trying to claw back some of that money, but it often turns out to be more expensive to go after it than the amount to be recovered.

What did student loan borrowers get? As "adults" aged 17-22, they got saddled with a massive debt in exchange for educations that will not provide most of them with an income that can sustain that debt, much less pay it off.

In that sense, the government, in partership with banks, was just another predatory lender, no less so than the banks that issue Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc. at rates approaching 30% interest.

Who benefited from student loan? Not the students, most of whom would be better off financially if they had gone to a trade school instead of spending four years "finding their major" only to graduate with a useless "Interdisciplinary Studies" degree.

Nope.

The Universities benefited. Everything Student loan maximums were raised, they raised their tuition to match it. They used the money to endow chairs, to build self-agrandizing "John Smith Wings" on their libraries, research like the Shrimp-on-a-Treadmill studies, and faculty salary hikes.

Just a little food for thought.

The spin from MAGA would be a sight to behold.

What is there to spin. If you sign a note, then you're obligated to pay. Its not my responsibility to pay for your irresponsibility of letting a loan default. Its just another thing orange man is wrong about, same as operation warp speed and covid injections. Yawn.

Ah. I think you're right. I know you're factually right, but your implications is probably right also.

Maybe I spoke too soon in the above post.

Yes, this has long been an option, so maybe the emails that "Trump sent out," were just the standard emails sent to people getting close to finishing their twenty years.

By Allah!

Getting so you cannot trust clickbait headlines anymore!

:D
