In August 2024, Natron Energy announced plans for a 24 GW sodium-ion battery factory in North Carolina, scaling up its production capacity by 40 times. The $1.4 billion facility would be supported by a North Carolina Job Development Grant, the company said.
The announcement comes amid a surge in U.S. solar and energy storage installations, boosted by tax incentives in the Biden administration’s 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.
The company was also awarded a $21.7 million Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) for a 12-year term and $30 million from the North Carolina Megasite Readiness Program for on-site preparation
Now Natron Energy is about to close up shop and disappear. How much of the “awarded” money will get returned?
