Nanny State: Schools Crack Down On...Cheetos?

It isn't a matter of Republican vs Democrat on all issues.

I couldn't agree more, but the OP blamed it on "socialist's" which is a synonym for Democrats/liberals/progressives and I just could not let that go unchallenged.

The right and the GOP is as guilty of nanny-statism as the left and that needs to be noted in a thread where the blame is laid exclusively at the feet of the other side.

I will risk detention for this shit...

This ideology of trying to figure out whats best for others, then implementing it through pain of punishment - balooning government in the process; is really fucked up! What I love about this precious
land is freedom - what we have left of it. All you do gooders need to leave people alone, worry about your own life - my life is none of your buisness! An attack on our freedom is an attack on the soul of the country.

The Nanny/Police Staters can't leave you alone. Forcing their agendas on others is what their lives are all about. Americans just need to step up and vote them out of office whenever possible. That's the only solution.

This is another mess Romney wil have to deal with if he's elected: Food nazis patrolling our schools.

The nanny state was perfected by John Galt, the eternal capitalist, who took over big government in order to build a fence around his profit. It's called the patent system and it ensures that nobody can compete in his neck of the woods. It allows him to raise prices and decrease services without fear of losing customers.

Business benefits from a dynamic state sector which subsidizes its costs and socializes its losses.

Business benefits from the most advanced industrial infrastructure in history - paid for by the public.

Business benefits from the Pentagon, which stabilizes 3rd world nations so it can have easy access to cheap raw materials and cheap labor. Also subsidized by the public.

The 80's consumer electronics boom came from technology that was developed through the Cold War NASA and Defense budgets. Paid for by the public.

Boeing and commercial aviation started as a quasi government entity - subsidized to the hilt by big government.

The fucking southwest - and all the profit that exists therein - would no exist in its current state, which supports large populations with energy and water but for the Hoover Dam. Paid for by the public. Built by big government.

Ronald Reagan's father was saved by a big government work program during the Great Depression. FDR had faith in American families. He believed that if you helped them during hard times, they would recover and make great contributions. Had FDR called the Reagan's "welfare queens", the world would never have met Ronald Reagan. Jeez - I wonder if FDR's investment in the Reagans paid off? Or if it was merely a big government hand-out to the lazy?

And let's not talk about the financial risks that ol' John Galt likes to take on the public's nickel. He starts by using big government to weaken the laws for leverage - meaning: rather than needing one dollar on hand to cover every nine he invests, he gets his hired goons in Congress to relax the rule so he only needs 1 dollar for every $22 he invests. And then he gets congress to change the laws for what is considered a traditional bank, so he can get some big government nanny FDIC insurance to cover his losses. Guess who covers the losses for his risks? The public.

But it gets better. He takes some of the profit left over from fleecing the country and he invests it in Rightwing talk radio, which tells people it's socialism to regulate his corrupt control of government. The point of Rush Limbaugh is to manipulate people without much formal, post high school education.

Last year business spent more on lobbying than re-investment in the economy. Problem with John Galt is that his greed always gets the best of him. Don't listen to the myth that we can outsmart greed by making it serve freedom and job creation. Don't listen to the myth that the market harnesses greed into lifting all boats. This is the biggest myth of all. Wall Street had a decade long orgy of investing in securities and derivatives which they knew would blow up. They were moving consumers into products while secretly investing even more heavily into hedges which paid off huge when those products tanked. John Galt opted for short term profit. As a result he has dynastic wealth and the poor are jobless. Reagan promised the opposite.

We swallowed poison in 1980.

Cheetos are an FDA approved food item so they must be safe for human consumption.
Why? The FDA is rife with corruption and receives its' funding and expertise from the private sector.

US Government Proposal Puts Food Supply at Risk
http://www.responsibletechnology.org/fraud/faulty-regulations/US-Government-Proposal-Puts-Food-Supply-at-Risk-January-2005
This makes the food and the biotech industries nervous, and rightly so. When a corn engineered to produce a pig vaccine contaminated half a million bushels of soybeans, the corn's producer required a government bail out to pay nearly $3 million in fine and cleanup costs—a fraction of the cost if the drug had made it to grocery shelves. When StarLink™ corn, a potentially allergenic GM variety, did end up in the food supply, product recalls, lost exports, clean-up efforts, and lawsuits totaled about $1 billion.

On August 2, 2002, a White House directive issued by its Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) told the FDA, USDA, and EPA to create ways that contamination from "field tests could be found acceptable." [3] On November 19, 2004, the FDA proposed a "Guidance for Industry," which acting FDA commissioner Lester Crawford described as "a high priority for the Administration and the industry, to enhance public confidence [and] avoid product recalls."[4] What the new guidance does not do, however, is protect public health. In fact, it does the opposite. If approved, it would increase the chances that the world food supply will suffer dangerous untraceable contamination.

The gist of the new draft guidance is this: A GM crop developer voluntarily provides the FDA with answers to two pages of questions. These may include the results of two superficial tests on their crop that take as little as 20 hours to complete. If crop contamination is later discovered, companies can claim that they have complied with FDA requirements and the agency can declare that their prior "evaluation" shows that the contamination will not cause harm. Armed with what appears to be a legal defense, companies would become less likely to spend the money needed to prevent contamination.
FDA Ignores Science

Biotech scientists insert genes into DNA to produce new proteins. According to the draft guidance, a new protein "might be an allergen or toxin." That's true. But the guidance also states that the "FDA believes that any potential risk from" contamination by GM field trials "would be limited to" this potentially allergenic or toxic protein. [5] That's not true.

But that is neither here nor there. I pack my kids lunch, I know that the food the government gives kids at school is food provided by the lowest bidder. The meat, grains, vegetables, fruit and dairy is always procured at the biggest factory farms with the most genetically modified food, using the most toxins. If you want to make sure your kids food is clean, pack it yourself. Don't use any snacks that have wheat, grain or corn as it's base, that would include Cheetos.

Pack spring water so they don't have to drink fluoridated beverages. Pack in their lunches non-GMO food, organic foods, and whole grain bread and other whole foods, non-processed foods. These have the nutrients necessary for a well balanced diet.

However, the last people to be telling others what and how to eat are the same folks allowing genetic manipulation of food, irradiation of food, injection of growth hormones and anti-biotics into meat, mass chemical treatment (herbicide/insecticide) of food, and the poisoning of our water. Granted, all of this destruction of the food supply sure increases the need for health care dollars, which the government now conveniently has a stake in.

I wonder how long it'll be before a parent sues a school, or education department, for allowing their kid to get fat while under their care and direction.
Maybe the issue isn't a nanny/police state but litigation fear.

Schools should control what they can and want to. Close vending towards Cheetos, fine. Bother those that bring from home? A problem.

Teachers across several states are patrolling hallways searching for students in possession of snack food contraband but theres one hot & spicy treat that is Enemy Number One Flamin Hot Cheetos.

We dont allow candy, and we dont allow Hot Cheetos, Rita Exposito, principal of Jackson Elementary School in Pasadena, Calif., told the Chicago Tribune. We dont encourage other chips, but if we see Hot Cheetos, we confiscate them sometimes after the child has already eaten most of them.

Yes, you read that correctly. Teachers at Jackson Elementary school confiscate contraband bags of Cheetos.

A spokesman for the Pasadena School system told Fox News that the ban was part of a district-wide wellness policy and that most of the guidelines come from the federal government.

The spokesman said during school hours they are responsible for the students and that includes their health.

There are reports of similar Cheetos crackdowns in Illinois and New Mexico.

In Albuquerque, a seventh grade health teacher sent a letter to parents calling for a ban on the Frito-Lay product.

The teacher at Lyndon B. Johnson M idle School warned parents that Hot Cheetos are not only unhealthy but can also spread germs because the students share their Cheetos. The teacher also complained to parents that the snack food is too messy.

They have that red dye in them and the kids get that all over their hands and track it all over everything and the custodians have to clean it up, Albuquerque Schools spokesman John Miller told Fox News. Theyre not big fans of that....
