That may seem like a strange name for the prince of darkness, but the scriptures teach us that Satan was an angel in authority before he fell to the dark side. Lucifer was one of the first of our Father's creations—one of the oldest spirits. For this reason he is sometimes referred to as a “son of the morning.” See, Jehovah and Lucifer were asked who would support Father's Plan for our Salvation. Lucifer wanted to take us all to the earth without any free will or free moral agency. We would not get the opportunity to choose good or evil and never experience what life lessons are to be learned. Lucifer would do this and then demanded all praise and control of our futures. Jehovah, agreed with Father's Plan with all of Father's children having the opportunity to by faith choose good or evil. There is much more we covenanted to do here on earth as well. But, Jehovah did this and would bring us to earth for all the glory to be Father in Heaven's glory. Thus, Jehovah agreed to be our Savior and atone for our own sins and not the sins of Adam or anyone else. Each has to repent and be individually forgiven. No safety in numbers. So, Jehovah came down and took the body of Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary.

In Hebrew, the word " שָׂטָן - śâṭân "

this word means " an opponent; or adversary or to resist or withstand "

this Hebrew word, it is used in the manuscripts early in Hebrew Bible history as describing situations that are not related to " Satan - the devil "

as opposition; or resistance - In Num 22:22 God Himself, stood against { Balaam } as a { SATAN ) adversary - against him. - Balaam

Here in Num 22:22 God Himself - refers to His Own Holy Angels - as a Satan. – Meaning, adversary.

The word Satan simply means an adversary. it is not only used for the Evil Spirits of the devil.

But The Lord God also calls His own Holy angels as the term Satan in regarding God sending the Holy Obedient Angels act as an adversary against Gods Enemies.

In the Old Testament, The Holy angels as well are called as Satan, simply meaning - שׂטן śâṭân / saw-tawn' An opponent; adversary or simply to withstand.

It is not only used for meaning the Evil Spirit of The Devil.

Also in Num 22:32 And the Holy angel of the LORD is called Satan as well - Again.

In other places the Human enemies of Israel in war and conflicts are called as Satan as well.

God does not specifically give a name and identity to the Devil / Satan, who is the active force of the spiritual world of rebellious angel entities who work destruction upon man. -

But rather God associates the working of these evil spirits in their servants and methods by giving a name - labeling them as their physical manifestation of evil and influence

under names such as "

The Serpent - The Dragon - Baal - Beelzebub - or an individual person such as the historical prince of Persia who greatly influenced by spiritualism

or - Baal, Astarte, Asherah, Chemosh, Dagon, Remphan, Moloch, Tammuz, Amon , Chemosh or Dagon - these are the names given depicting evil and service, worship unto the working active force of Satan the adversary

also eventually halfway through the Old Testament the word Satan becomes a word used to only describe the working of spiritual force of evil and no longer is used as a random general word meaning simply to oppose or withstand, its just the adaptation and growth and changing of the Hebrew language and culture and language system.
