As a media firestorm erupts over the failed nomination of Mumia abu-Jamal’s former lawyer to head up the Department of Justice’s civil rights division, a similar figure to abu-Jamal was released from jail on Tuesday after serving time for the murder of a Baltimore police officer.

The NAACP praised the release of Marshall “Eddie” Conway, a former Black Panther leader.

“It just shows you that things can come right after a wrong,” Baltimore NAACP President Tessa Hill-Aston told the Baltimore CBS affiliate.

The NAACP fought for the release of Conway, who was convicted in 1970 for the killing of Officer Donald Sager. Sager was gunned down after responding to a domestic disturbance call by three assailants. It was argued in court that Sager was killed in a Black Panther initiatory rite that required the two men that participated to prove their loyalty.

I dated a 'Social Worker' some years ago and let me tell you..... Black women do NOT have to resort to the Birth Control Of Last Resort.

Many of them get their BC Pills for free. All they gotta do is ask for them. They're free.

The problem is, and this is why my girlfriend at the time walked away from her career.... They don't care.

They came out with (this is years ago) with a BC Pill dispenser that had the day of the week on it, they'd tutor them on how to use the pills and... They'd forget or go on a 5 Day Drunk and not take their pills or take them all at once and get sick or throw them away or, quite frankly, just lose them.

These people live the way they do because that's the way they want to live.

If you know a successful Black Man or Black Woman and you can get him/her to talk to you honestly about the sad state their people are in... They'll be the first to tell you.

How do you break the cycle? How do you change people who have lived approximately the same way for 10,000 years?

When I was in the service, I knew this gal who dated a guy who was in my unit. This girl was college educated, was part of a good Christian family, traditional Asian background. And she still managed to get pregnant, and then had an abortion because her parents really thought she was still a virgin at 22. She stopped taking birth control because he wasn't moving forward on his promise to marry her.

A year later, she got knocked up again by the same guy.
