Multi tools....

I had one of those (briefly) when I worked at Dupont....I turned it in because I much preferred the Leatherman because the Gerber plier end was too blunt for pulling old gaskets out of 4'' transfer lines and that was mostly what I used it for.

I would have been fine with a pair of stainless needle-nosed pliers but they bought everything from McMaster and the Leatherman was cheaper....Go figure.
Yeah I have a bag full of miniature tools that pretty much make up a multi-tool

I've worked around industrial areas all of my life.
I've been in machine shops, welding shops, textile mills and even healthcare physical plant.
Over the years you learn to carry certain things with you. I always have at least one good foldable box cutter and usually some kind of multi-tool. In the past before multi-tools became popular I usually had a small bag of portable tools with dedicated purposes.

Nowadays multi-tools are pretty popular item.
A lot of women carry them in their pocketbooks.
I have found that they can be useful for some limited things. However most of the tools on there aren't really good the heavy duty work. For instance if you're trying to remove a rusted Phillips head you're not going to get it done with the multi-tool.
I have no idea why anyone includes a pair of mini scissors on these things.... I think I tried to use them once it's pretty much impossible to make any type of length cut with them. Have any of you ever used the little mini saw? If you have.... What did you use it for? Then there's the file.... I have definitely used that on many occasions. The pliers of course.... Wire stripper/ cutter.....

I'm curious to see what others do with their multi tools. Leatherman I guess it's considered to be the Cadillac of multi-tools.... They can be pricey.

I'll be interested to get some input from fellow blue collar or anyone for that matter on how they use multi-tools that they might have and whether or not they feel one brand is better than another.

When I was on active duty, I carried a heavy-duty Leatherman. Most of us did. I still still feel naked without some kind of multitool on my belt.

But since I am not on deployment any more, and am surrounded at work and home by every tool on Earth, I have downsized. I have cycled through quite a few mini multitools over the years, and currently carry a Roxon multitool which has both pliers and scissors.

Not those tiny scissor you see on Swiss Army knives. This packs a nice big pair.

I also carry a Mikov Predator Blackout N690 DLC-coated leverlock automatic knife on me. The blade on this thing is literally as hard as a diamond. I loooooove Mikovs!

As for a box cutter, I agree. Always carry one. I carry a Gerber light pocket razor knife. This is by far my most used knife. It's really a utility knife and clips onto my front left pocket and lays flush. It's beautiful. I use it nearly every day, so it is a true EDC.

I have six of these for backups in case they stop making them as has happend to a lot of knives I've had in the past:

I've had and carried at least three. One actual leatherman and a couple of knockoffs. When I say "carry" I don't mean all the time. They were in my toolboxs most of the time.

To work on a machine or project, I would roll as many tools as needed to the worksite to keep from making more trips. If I went up on a ladder or scissor lift, to work on anything too far away from the boxes, that's when I would grab a leatherman and a handful of other tools I anticipated.

I could say the same for my 4" channel locks. I wish I had a dime for everytime I used them. Carried them in my pocket all day at work.

Multi tools....

I have a few of them at home, never carry them. Multi tools are for when you are well away from getting any other real tools out in the field and any crappy tool to have is better than having none at all.

On the job at work, you are expected to have, carry, or can get the proper tool, so not much point carrying a multi tool.

Yep, multibit screw driver, leatherman, small adjustable (got one on a key chain,) and a pair of side cuts, maybe a handful of cable ties. . . get er done!

I have carried a Leatherman for decades. Used it for filing, cutting, sawing (yes it has a saw blade) needle nose pliers with wire cutter that I used one time to cut a horse out of the field fence he got tangled up in.

Yep, when I'm out on the property my Leatherman comes in real handy at times.
