WASHINGTON — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., broke with her party Monday evening by calling for action on expiring Obamacare subsidies to avoid premium hikes, adding a prominent MAGA voice to the cause led by Democrats.

In a long post on X, Greene, the far-right MAGA firebrand, made it clear she was not in Congress when the 2010 law passed.

“Let’s just say as nicely as possible, I’m not a fan,” she wrote. “But I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.”

But this was by design, that is, to make Obamacare increasingly unaffordable, so that the only alternative will be government run health care.

It was never meant to work as it is a no-win situation now.

Government spending is bad, except when it's spent on my kids, eh Marj?

Yep I remember one of the authors talking openly about it..... He was chuckling at how stupid the populace is who didn't realize exactly what this thing was supposed to do.

GOP Obamacare Surrender

For all the media hand-wringing over the government shutdown the fact is only approximately 750,000 of the over two million non-military federal workers are being furloughed. Most federal programs will continue operating, including the major entitlement and welfare programs. The national parks will remain open, if understaffed and with closed visitor centers. Unfortunately, the shutdown will not affect the military-industrial complex.

President Trump’s supposed “master plan” to implement mass firings of federal employees will only fire 16,000 employees.

Democrats are refusing to vote for a short-term continuing resolution unless it extends the increase in Obamacare subsidies that was part of the Biden-era covid relief legislation. Republicans, who for years campaigned on repealing and replacing Obamacare, are not opposing extending the subsidies. Instead, they are focusing on concerns the Democrats want to allow illegal immigrants to receive taxpayer-funded health benefits. Republicans are also emphasizing that they want to negotiate over extending the Obamacare subsidies, not simply shove them into a “must pass” continuing resolution. Republicans also want to ensure that laws barring illegal immigrants from receiving the subsidies are in place.

Republicans’ de facto embrace of the increased Obamacare subsidies, which were supposed to be a temporary increase to help Americans who lost their jobs because of the covid lockdowns, is a little noticed but major milestone in the history of Obamacare. For many years Republicans campaigned on a promise to “repeal and replace” Obamacare. Opposition to Obamacare, along with opposition to the big bank bailouts and the cap and trade scheme, fueled the “Tea Party” movement, which led in the 2010 election to a Republican takeover of the House of Representatives. In 2013, as the federal government was implementing Obamacare, Tea Party Republicans orchestrated a government shutdown. The argument was this was the last chance to repeal Obamacare because once it was fully implemented the number of people who would become reliant on the program would make Obamacare politically impossible to repeal.

These Tea Party Republicans were mocked for their efforts, but history has proven them right. Even though Donald Trump and many Republican candidates for House and Senate promised to repeal Obamacare in their 2016 campaigns, they never even held a vote on full repeal of the healthcare law. Instead, they pushed legislation repealing the “unpopular” parts of Obamacare even though the way the program was structured it was impossible for the popular parts to work without the unpopular parts. The legislation repealing the “unpopular” parts of Obamacare was opposed by some Republicans who had previously voted to repeal all of Obamacare.

In the 2018 midterm election, the Democrats then turned the tables on Republicans by running as champions of healthcare who would protect Obamacare from the Republicans. This helped them retake the House.

Now, the majority of Republicans appear ready to ratify President Biden’s increase in Obamacare subsidies. So, Republicans have gone from promising to repeal Obamacare to promising to repeal the “unpopular” provisions to de facto supporting the program.

Republican failure to effectively oppose Obamacare is because of failure to acknowledge that the pre-Obamacare healthcare system was seriously flawed because of government interventions. Therefore, a way to “fix” healthcare is via measures giving patients and providers control over the healthcare system, such as tax credits and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Unapologetic advocacy of free markets is the only effective way to oppose big government schemes like Obamacare and advance liberty.

It is a funny thing. Leftists destroy society and governments, like the ones in Venezuela and Cuba or even New York. But as the quality-of-life deteriorates in a place like New York City that has been under democrat rule forever, as people can no longer afford to live, they double down on Leftism by electing an open socialist. And as things further deteriorate under the socialist in New York City, no doubt they will blame their political opponents like we see those in Cuba do as they blame the US boycotting Cuba due to their political leanings as the reason they are suffering economically . There is always someone to blame, but never any answers or results.

That is socialism.

What is frightening is that even though people may be eating out of garbage cans in places like Venezuela, and even though many of them have been executed under their Left wing tyranny, I am convinced that people are still sold on the notion of socialism, more than they were before as the thinking becomes, "If only it is done correctly." All I can say is, don't drink the cool aide or you never wake up from the nightmare.

Frightening.

Nothing is going to happen until democrats vote to open the government.

Nothing is going to happen until democrats vote to open the government.
Democrats will only do what they think will help them return to power.

Luckily for the GOP, they are all a bunch of dim-witted loons.

It was 100% percent meant to fail.
Obama knew he couldn't get Socialized medicine through Congress at that time with a working structure so he destroyed the system that we had.

ACA cost min -$700 per month per person. Same as buying any private health insurance? Why do we need a phony GOVT plan too?

According to AI LW search engine on steroids:

The federal government operates six major health care programs: Medicare, Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), the Department of Defense TRICARE and TRICARE for Life programs (DOD TRICARE), the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) program, and the Indian Health Service (IHS) program.
These programs serve approximately one-third of Americans and provide health care services to specific populations such as older persons, low-income individuals, veterans, active-duty military personnel and their dependents, and Native Americans.

Why don't they consolidate under one? Silly me. Asked same under the purple lipped jug eared Muslim in 09'

MTG is quite the anomaly and such an odd one.

She has spoken about not being beholden to Trump and being primaried by he NOP (New Old Party)

When she first ran for her office, she was out there all alone. Trump weighed in after she won and she didn't need his backing as she was so far ahead in polls.

She earned her seat the old fashioned way.

It could have worked. It SHOULD have worked.

When it was first proposed I was excited about it. I thought they intended it to be a Copy of the Swiss system. The best in the world. And one of the most affordable. And Universal.

It's very simple. You MUST have Health Insurance through one of the PRIVATE Carriers in Switzerland. They are heavily regulated, but no more than ours are. Except that the Swiss Government mandates what they MUST offer. And you can choose from several different plans depending on what you can afford. But they all cover most medical care. Some cover more than they should but...... The price is built in.

If you can't afford any of them, the government will buy one for you. But you MUST have PRIVATE Health Insurance.

People don't realize what cost-shifting does to our Health Care Costs. It is mind-boggling.

The goobermint, Medicaid, Medicare, goobermind Unions, eyc, etc don't pay what they're charged. They are so powerful, they tell the Hospitals and the Doctors what they're gonna get.

Which is never enough. So they cost-shift the loss onto people who have to pay the freight for Dead Beats in the goobermint -- Us.

But, they fucked it up. dimocrap scum screw up everything they touch. Everything. I spent hours and hours in here explaining it -- To no avail.

AFAIC, people with the ACA can SUCK ON IT. Not kidding. I know many of them, if not most, are on my team politically but the ACA is a piece of garbage. Of course, anything the Black Dicksucker (aka, The Bastard Son of Frank Marshall Davis) touched was garbage.

The ACA is a bad joke. It needs to go. And it will hurt more people in Florida than any other State. It just needs to go. It's a pile of shit. But, so were the total scumbags that instituted it.

Go figure

With all due respect it was not intended to be a Copy of the Swiss system.

I believe it's time people go back to viewing (maybe first timers need it more):

My guess is, someone looked at the Swiss system and said if it works there, it must work everywhere, which is perhaps the biggest fallacy there is.

No, the US is a huge and with a much diverse nation and economy, with perhaps the most dysfunctional governing body in the world.

But as governments become more centralized and powerful, that can only be the end result due to corruption rising due to the unlimited aspect of power and money of such a government.

I would be all for states taking on their own health care problems and leaving the Feds completely out of the equation.

For example, people were just fine with Romneycare in MA. They were so fine with it, they elected Scott Brown, the first Republican to win there in some time who ran on stopping Obamacare. Think of it, democrats elected Scott Brown ONLY to stop the democrat plan Obamacare, so they could preserve their own Romneycare. That was democracy in action, but then came the DNC to override the democratic vote which should have stopped Obamacare as they used Reconciliation to override democracy in action, a process that is not even Constitutional.

This is the democrat party, the party that nominates elected nominees for office like Biden and appoints Kamala instead.

MTG has a heart, who knew. Imagine for a moment all the Americans helped by Healthcare - call it Obamacare but so what. Good things come with costs, so what. What would Jesus say I wonder.

What would Jesus say?

I just love it when the Left invokes the name of Christ for their own cause, someone they disdain and curse if he dare disagree with any aspect of Left wing ideology. Then once Jesus refuses to bow his knee to them in worship, back on the cross he goes demanding separation of church and state.

Murderers one and all.

People who actually followed the debates and the wonkish papers on the healthcare debate know there was no building a US system to be like the Swiss one.

Dante has been following Stuart Altman on this since the 1970s (when he was in Cambridge/Boston area)

Scott Brown came in on other issues

Romneycare was popular.

Dante was involved in politics of Massachusetts at the time. He says you should

She's probably hearing it from her constituents. There's a shitload of people who will be affected by this, and "well, just go to the ER" is one stupid ******* response.

It's not a great system, that's for sure, but it's better than nothing. But we gotta keep those billionaire taxes low, so though shit!
