My take on this topic is that there's three main categories of movie actors appearing in video games
1. The game is a promotional tool for their movie.
2. The game designers structured the game like a movie and hired actors.
3. The actors portrayed their game role because they either knew the developers personally, was professionally connected to some of the people who took a chance asking them or sold their likeness as a promotional tool to the developers and it isnt personal at all.

Another thing about this matter is that Hollywood uses a lot of special effects computer people who also work in various computer related areas including video game development so I am not surprised that naturally the special effects people would eventually bring in some of the acting people on their side of the entertainment industry as the technology advanced to where it is now.
