Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980 after two months of increasing volcanic activity. That event is widely considered the most disastrous volcanic eruption in U.S. history. It killed 57 people, destroyed hundreds of homes, 57 bridges and some 200 miles of roads and highways in addition to leveling tens of thousands of acres of forest land.

I liked living in Oregon the two times I did, but I never wanted to stay or buy a house there; same with California. It's just a matter of time before all those major faults set off a chain reaction and drop the entire coastline into the ocean. The east side of the mountain range is just as pretty, and a lot cheaper, too.

Volcanos are really only dangerous if they dont blow for a couple hundred years or more. Mt Rainer is a far bigger threat than Helens.
