We pay taxes on SS contributions when they are collected, so taxing the benefits is really double taxing.


The only reason for the tax is to bolster SS for the future as fewer workers are contributing vs those collecting benefits. Longevity is the big problem. People aren't dying soon enough for the program to perpetuate itself.

The same goes for the SALT cap (state and local taxes).
I used to be able to deduct state and local taxes so I was only taxed once. Now like SS, i'm taxed twice. When I earn it, and when I spend it.
