IIRC I heard somewhere Carter negotiated the deal for the Iranian hostage release back in the day but it got held up by a bank holiday (in I think the UK) screwing up the timing to get the money transferred so they weren't released until after Reagan was sworn in.

A few minutes later Joe Biden’s State Department spox Matthew Miller admitted President Trump’s team has been critical to getting the hostage release deal done.
“When it comes to the involvement of President-elect Trump’s team, it’s been absolutely critical in getting this deal over the line,” State Department spox Matthew Miller said.

I don’t know about giving Trump credit, but Hamas thought they’d get a more favorable deal under Biden than they would have had negotiating with Trump.
