Catching up in the other thread I saw some ask about what I meant. I didn't ignore it, I just honestly missed it being asked at the time. Have seen it now, so here we go.

"I also examined the influence of extramarital sex taboos upon crime and violence. The data clearly indicates that punitive-repressive attitudes toward extramarital sex are also linked with physical violence, personal crime, and the practice of slavery. Societies which value monogamy emphasize military glory and worship aggressive gods.

These cross-cultural data support the view of psychologists and sociologists who feel that sexual and psychological needs not being fulfilled within a marriage should be met outside of it, without destroying the primacy of the marriage relationship.

Available data clearly indicate that the rigid values of monogamy, chastity, and virginity help produce physical violence. The denial of female sexuality must give way to an acceptance and respect for it, and men must share with women the responsibility for giving affection and care to infants and children. As the father assumes a more equal role with the mother in child-rearing and becomes more affectionate toward his children, certain changes must follow in our socioeconomic system. A corporate structure which tends to separate either parent from the family by travel, extended meetings, or overtime work weakens the parent-child relationship and harms family stability. To develop a peaceful society, we must put more emphasis on human relationships.
...

About 25 percent [note, this is a mid-70s paper hence dated references] of marriages in the United States now end in divorce, and an even higher percentage of couples have experienced extramarital affairs. This suggests that something is basically wrong with the traditional concept of universal monogamy. When viewed in connection with the cross-cultural evidence of the physical deprivations, violence, and warfare associated with monogamy, the need to create a more pluralistic system of marriage becomes clear. Contemporary experiments with communal living and group marriage are attempting to meet basic needs that remain unfulfilled in the isolation of a nuclear marriage. We must seriously consider new options, such as extended families comprised of two or three couples who share values and lifestyles. By sharing the benefits and responsibilities of child rearing, such families could provide an affectionate and varied environment for children as well as adults, and thereby reduce the incidence of child abuse and runaways."

No. We have to get over this idea that children belong to families, but instead that they belong to whole communities.

I'm sorry, but most people do want to have a monogamous relationship, both men and women. I certainly do not believe it causes violence. That is beyond silly. In fact, I would guess that some of the most violent people were not married or in any kind of stable relationship.

Instability would be MUCH more likely to lead to violence and drama.

"It takes a village to raise a child."
- African proverb

Should deemphasize children and spouses as property at the very least. When ever someone mentions traditional marriage I always wonder if they realize originally marriage made wives the literal property of their husbands.

That might be true to some extent, but not anymore here in America. People choose to be married now and they choose their partner. I think the bigger problem is that people jump into monogamous relationships with the wrong person and they don't feel satisfied.

Can believe or disbelieve anything you like, fact is it contributes to violence. This is a peer-reviewed scientific paper and reality. Not subject to ignorant people's believing or disbelieving it.

As to what people want, people wnat what they've been conditioned to want. Christianity is the majority faith in the US, and has monogamy as it social paradigm, thus the majority want monogamy only because it syncs with their religious conviction. In cultures where another faith is the majority, whatever it says is also seen as what the majority wnat as in Muslim countries and multiple wives.

LOL. Strict Islamic laws do not allow for multiple husbands. Look what happens when a woman is seen with a male that is not a relative. THERE's your 'violence'. Forget the 'religious' component....in fact, I think a whole lot of non-monogamous relationships are prone to violence because of the jealousy factor.

You are so full of crap, as jealousy is a normal human emotion and that played an important role in keeping families together at one time. Sorry but most people do want a monogamous partner, and that goes for both men and women.

I read it... & it's not like females have a choice... here both men & women are free to have multiple 'spouses'... albeit only one legally- it has nothing to do with conditioning... because those that can't handle a monogamous relationship, will go out & screw around. Those that have a propensity towards promiscuousness will be that way no matter what. LOL... looks at the 'mafia' life as an example. Strong 'Christians' who go to church... donate blood money.... have their marriage- wife-children... & a lot of whores on the side.

Societies are dragged into war by the political class which I would bet is whole lot less monogamous than the general population......makes ta to hhhmmmmmm

Too much emphasis on sex in the world.
If stability and values were emphasized as much as sex, we would be much better off.

Our identities are not defined by our sexuality. Or, they should not be.

What you quoted is not a "peer-reviewed study," it is a self-justifying essay describing unproven and frankly preposterous assertions about sexual fidelity and/or the lack of it.

It totally ignores the vast majority of literature on the subject which proves (to anyone not wearing blinders) the superiority of monogamous marriage, not only for the married persons, but also and emphatically for their progeny.

But regardless...

Does the concept of INTEGRITY ever seep into that Swiss Cheese-like organ you like to think of as your brain?

Regardless of the ceremony chosen - civil, religious, tribal, or whatever - "marriage" is a solemn promise, made before witnesses and at least one duly appointed public official, that the individuals entering into the marriage will remain FAITHFUL to one another until one of them dies ("...until death do us part"). Historically, regardless of the specific tradition, marriage is undertaken in a manner that is intended to impress upon the principals the seriousness and finality of the social contract.

At what point does that solemn promise become nothing more than a suggestion? Does a person's "word of honor" mean anything to you? If not, then you - putting it bluntly - have no integrity. No character.

Imagine if "marriages" were undertaken according to your sophomoric view of reality. The parties would promise to be faithful until something better comes along, or "faithful, if you don't count the other relationships that I don't consider significant." Who would get married on those terms? The spouse would have to be an idiot with no sense whatsoever of its own self-worth.

It is a biological fact that adults, and especially men, will continue to FEEL SEXUAL ATTRACTION to other people for as long as they have a libido. This does not justify ignoring/breaking the solemn promises of marriage, even if the object of one's sexual attraction feels a mutual attraction to you. The promise of marriage is ESPECIALLY relevant in those cases. We are not barnyard animals, compelled by nature to copulate with anyone or anything that remains still long enough to tolerate it.

The universal presence of artificial birth control has addled the brains of many people. Before the advent of ABC, two people copulating had to consider the very real possibility that the woman might get pregnant - in a culture where getting an abortion was extremely problematic and literally not always possible. So they were forced to restrain themselves and honor their marriage vows. Now, it is presumed that there is no possibility of a bastard kid resulting from a tryst, and it's just a matter of whether the parties are desirous and discrete.

But it's still the behavior of barnyard animals.

I think monogomy and polygamy are both glorious ways to enjoy the experience of Life.

I somehow doubt the credibility of this study, even if it is peer reviewed. I would have to read its methodology before I would even consider its propositions, especially since it is touted as relevant from such a well-known fruitcake as Delta.

Delta just posts this tripe to feel smug about "making people think and question their established understanding of things." I put that in quotes because that is what is going through his puny brain.

Fact is, Delta is a degenerate with LOTS of problems and he uses this forum in an attempt to legitimize and, thereby, normalize his weirdness. Don't believe me? Then consider how many times in the past he has portrayed himself as a "teacher".

Delta is sick, in an anti-social and pathological kind of way.

These cross-cultural data support the view of psychologists and sociologists who feel that sexual and psychological needs not being fulfilled within a marriage should be met outside of it, without destroying the primacy of the marriage relationship.
...

Article: Body Pleasure and the Origins of Violence
"Body Pleasure and the Origins of Violence"

I'm sorry, but most people do want to have a monogamous relationship, both men and women. I certainly do not believe it causes violence. That is beyond silly. In fact, I would guess that some of the most violent people were not married or in any kind of stable relationship.

Instability would be MUCH more likely to lead to violence and drama.

Are you trying to convince people that they would prefer to be with one who was unfaithful to them? Lol. That is beyond ridiculous. That causes all kinds of drama and that is due to people's emotions and NOT societal conditioning.

Try reading the thing before disagreeing with it. Just make yourself look like a moron talking about something you know nothing about.
It is an overall trend in every thread of said poster

Chris and Delta arguing over whether monogamy begets societal violence... A total clusterfuck of ridiculous futility and stupidity on both parts.
