Mitt Romney: importing more cheap workers will reduce salaries, fix USA's inflation problems

"Congress can actually help by increasing legal immigration, expanding the number of work visas in sectors that face worker shortages, securing the border, reducing tariffs on our allies, facilitating oil, gas, nuclear and renewable development, and reining in spending."

Mitt Romney Thinks More Work Visas Will Fix Inflation

That's enough talking points from Bain Capital for the day, thanks Mitt.

So Romney's answer to Inflation is increased illegal numbers for cheap labor to drive down the salaries of Americans, who are already struggling to get by.

If lowering wages is the answer perhaps we should start with cutting our elected officials' excessive salaries.

Inflation is "sticky", meaning its not a quick or easy fix.
Romney is an idiot if he thinks cheap labor will reduce inflation.
All it would do is make unemployment worse, and the recession deeper.

If you were one of the workers laid off, you would NOT welcome more cheap labor, would you?

I guess not. But the problem remains, we have more job openings than people to fill them. the labor market HAS changed, partially due to demographics, partially due to cultural changes brought on by Covid.

When inflation was around 18 percent, Paul Volker raised interest rates which then led to a lot of job losses.

So in 1980, he caved.

And inflation came roaring back.

Volker than had to raise interest rates again and stick to his guns. The US went into a recession, but when we came out of it the American economy took off bigly.

Powell needs to stick to his guns.

There is a very good chance of a recession. The yield curve is inverted. That's been a very reliable indicator of a pending recession.

Powell announced a very strange metric he is using to determine when he will throttle back on interest rates: https://www.federalreserve.gov/mediacenter/files/FOMCpresconf20220921.pdf

You want to be at a place where real rates are positive across the entire yield curve.

Since 2007, the Federal Reserve balance sheet has gone from around $870 billion to about $9 trillion.

That's a fuck ton of excess cash chasing too few goods.

The only way to lower inflation is to burn all that excess cash. And that's going to hurt. A lot.

Years ago, I called this massive expansion the Fed's Bond Bubble Doomsday Machine.

That bubble is finally starting to pop.

Yeah, here's the thing, Volcker and Reagan tamed inflation by destroying the middle class. A large part of that inflation control involved union busting.

Biden needs to not let Powell get away with wrecking the Middle Class again.

I am not entirely sure it will work, anyway. The 1970's wasn't because there was a labor shortage. Quite the opposite, really, the Baby Boomers were starting to enter the workforce in mass, and this was the beginning of women in the workforce as a major thing.

This is the opposite. We have a labor shortage because baby boomers are retiring, and because young people consider that minimum wage job to not be worth it in the age of Covid.

God, as much as I hate saying this, he's not wrong.
We are facing a worker shortage right now, because baby boomers are retiring faster than Gen Z can replace them. This is a major driver of inflation, as unskilled workers are going for a premium. Complicating that further is that Gen Z doesn't have the same workplace
How about the 5,000,000 new migrants Biden let in?
You are also ignoring the "Labor Participation Rate"
1668510744370.png

After Fau-Chi's Covid pandemic the LPR dropped 1%, why is that?
Too much free shit?
Not sure what you mean GEN-Z doesn't have the same workplace, unless you mean they'd rather sit on their porches than work for a living?
The 2020 workforce isn't much different in composition than the 2022 workforce.
Romney is WRONG, as usual.

(this reply answers your post #22 as well)

Nowhere near 5 million, and most of them will be sent back to their home countries.

The Labor Participation Rate has been in decline since 2011, which is when the first Baby Boomers started retiring.

Um, because people realized that a job where you are encountering people all day for minimum wage just isn't worth doing.

Not sure what you mean GEN-Z doesn't have the same workplace, unless you mean they'd rather sit on their porches than work for a living?

See above. Here's one obvious thing. Used to be that young couples would have one parent work a full time job, and the other parent (usually the female) would work a menial job that barely covered the cost of child care. So a lot of them realized they could economize a bit, not pay the child care costs, and have quality time before they went off to school. Win-win!

Also used to be that parents would make kids work these minimum wage jobs to "teach them responsibility". Except now they realize exposing their kids to TRUMP PLAGUE... or, excuse me, Covid-19 and having them bring it home with them isn't worth it.

The 2020 workforce isn't much different in composition than the 2022 workforce.

Actually, it's very different. Baby boomers are retiring at a pretty good clip and will continue to do so until 2030, which is when the last Baby boomer will hit retirement age.

Romney is WRONG, as usual.

As much as I despite the Weird Mormon Robot, he has a point. Just not one Racist America wants to hear.

The future of this country is non-white. Where they come from is the question.

1. Add up the 2021 and 2022 encounters, throw in some "got-aways" you get about 5m migrants Biden let in and shipped all over the US. You know damn well not many, if any, will be shipped back.
1668512227149.png

2. The Labor Participation Rate fell during the "Great Recession" under Obama 2011-2015. THEN it picked up during the Trump presidency. Now fell again under Biden. The 2020 workforce isn't any different than the 2022 workforce, is it? So why isn't the LPR back up?

3. So people would rather sit on their parent's porches than work for a living? Got it.

4. Most young couples realize that both need to work to live reasonably comfortably. After FAU-CHI's COVID pandemic, many realize that they can do their job from HOME instead of commuting to work. There is NO excuse for not working, especially if you can work from home, and not run the lawless democrat's subways and city street "kill zones". (news flash, Joe said the pandemic is over)

5. Actually boomers are "un-retiring", I'm not seeing your claim of boomers rushing to retire.
1668513057337.png

6. Playing the race card as usual.
Prove your point, that the US needs more non-white menial task laborers.
Like Nancy said, let the 5m new migrants pick crops?
We need a higher Labor Participation Rate, not more low-skill migrants.

Romney is a disgusting and corrupt Globalist.

1. Add up the 2021 and 2022 encounters, throw in some "got-aways" you get about 5m migrants Biden let in and shipped all over the US. You know damn well not many, if any, will be shipped back.

Um, no, you really don't since most of those people were sent back.. The only ones allowed to stay are those who had valid asylum claims. Which pretty much eliminated the Mexicans.

2. The Labor Participation Rate fell during the "Great Recession" under Obama 2011-2015. THEN it picked up during the Trump presidency. Now fell again under Biden. The 2020 workforce isn't any different than the 2022 workforce, is it? So why isn't the LPR back up?

Okay, you see, here's your problem. The Great Recession started under Bush and lasted from Q3 2008 to Q2 2009. And, no, the labor participation rate has fell consistently because - wait for it - the workforce is getting older.

The Labor Participation rate doesn't measure how many people are employed, it measures how many people participate in the workforce. If you are unemployed but looking for work, you count as part of the Labor Participation Rate.

It peaked at 69% in the Aughts, and has been on the decline ever since.

It's also pretty obvious you don't know how to read a chart. The slight uptick started in 2015, and then dropped in 2020 during TRUMP PLAGUE and TRUMP RECESSION.

3. So people would rather sit on their parent's porches than work for a living? Got it.

No point in "working for a living" if you can't get a living wage. So let's be analytical about what happened here, a paradigm shift. Before TRUMP PLAGUE, parents didn't make teens work because they need the money, the made them work to "learn responsibility". My parents did, when I got my first job at 16 working for LESS than minimum wage because it was a family restaurant. (This was in 1978). After Trump Plague, people realized that if you send your kid out to work for slave wages for big greedy corporations, they are risking their lives and possibly yours. Better to let them finish college and get jobs with real wages.

Well, that's fucked up, isn't it? Used to be the Dad was the breadwinner and Mom stayed at home and watched the kids... This is the ideal you Wingnuts like to point to without admitting your love of corporate greed destroyed it. Point was, a lot of Moms decided they liked staying home, crunched the family budget numbers, and realized that paying Lupe to watch the kids was less practical than just watching them yourself.

6. Playing the race card as usual.
Prove your point, that the US needs more non-white menial task laborers.

We need a higher Labor Participation Rate, not more low-skill migrants.

Nope, we really need more unskilled labor.

The thing is, unskilled labor is not a zero sum game. They produce as much consumer activity as they take up. You add 5 million more people, that's five million more people who buy housing, food, clothes, etc.

Yeah importing cheap and poor foriengers to do cheap jobs is exactly what America needs more of. That's sarcasm by the way.

No what we need to do is stop just printing trillions of dollars for stupid dumbass ideas that are just giant sinkholes like Bidens build back better and funneling billions of dollars to Ukraine, and so on.

Everytime he prints 1 dollar he lowers the value of all other dollars by a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. The more you have of something the less it's worth. Especially when our money isn't backed by anything other than promises, it isn't backed by tangible assets like gold and silver.

Inflation is "sticky", meaning its not a quick or easy fix.
Romney is an idiot if he thinks cheap labor will reduce inflation.
All it would do is make unemployment worse, and the recession deeper.

The Reign of Terror Was an Answer to the Reign of the Terrible

HeirHead guillotine-fodder Rominee never worked at a job his Daddy's Money didn't get him. That includes all his political jobs. There is a significantly unproportionate number of politicians who got where they were from this unAmerican disgrace. Adam Laxalt in Nevada is the latest pre-ordained heiristocrat to make the news. They block our way and must be deprived of all those unearned privileges at age 18. A country run by birth and not worth will not last much longer.

Let's not forget, 10 years ago, you guys insisted that the Weird Mormon Robot was the best guy to run the country because OH MY GOD, THERE'S A NEGRO IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!

Now you all hate him because he is the one pointing out that Trump is bad for your party, your movement and the country.

Also, Trump inherited a shitload of money from his Dad, he didn't accomplish anything on "merit" either.

1. NONE of the migrants were sent back. Stop lying.

2. You apparently don't know how to read a chart. Look below and see that boomer retirements are very steady from about 2009.
So boomer retirements are NOT the reason the participation rate is dropping.
1668559388277.png

3. Maybe you're right, its not worth the risk to flip burgers for minimum wage if you need to take public transportation, or cross any of the city street kill zones to get to work. Streets used to be safe, but not any more. Not everyone has the opportunity to go to college.

4. I think we can agree that child care is expensive. We babysat for our daughter's kids.
But unless gram can babysit for free, the economics of moms working may not be worth the risks.
I think baby sitting costs are tax deductible, but there should be more incentives for child care costs.

5. We may be talking past each other on this point. My point is that non-English speaking migrants cannot fill SKILLED LABOR JOBS, such as: sales jobs, jobs that requires training, not college, welders, refrigeration mechanics, car mechanics, equipment operators, etc., STEM jobs. We need more skilled labor, not more migrants.
FROM YOUR LINK:

Home health workers require training, but restaurant workers and hotel workers should be able to use migrants with minimal training.
Maybe you don't know this but the 5m migrants are not allowed to work. They are illegals without green cards. It is illegal to hire them, unless its to pick crops.

1. NONE of the migrants were sent back. Stop lying.

Your own article admits that only 1MM of the 5MM were allowed to stay pending immigration hearings. A lot of them are sent back after their hearings.

2. You apparently don't know how to read a chart. Look below and see that boomer retirements are very steady from about 2009.
So boomer retirements are NOT the reason the participation rate is dropping.

Uh, yeah, they are... and the two charts have nothing to do with each other. It's not how many boomers are retiring that's the issue, it's that there aren't enough Gen Z to replace them.

3. Maybe you're right, its not worth the risk to flip burgers for minimum wage if you need to take public transportation, or cross any of the city street kill zones to get to work. Streets used to be safe, but not any more. Not everyone has the opportunity to go to college.

We have 25,000 homicides a year.
1 million people died of TRUMP PLAGUE.

It's TRUMP PLAGUE that turned these people off minimum jobs.

4. I think we can agree that child care is expensive. We babysat for our daughter's kids.
But unless gram can babysit for free, the economics of moms working may not be worth the risks.
I think baby sitting costs are tax deductible, but there should be more incentives for child care costs.

I don't disagree, but I can see where someone might not like their in-laws, or might want to spend quality time. The point is, TRUMP PLAGUE kind of exposed who the shitty bosses were, and some people were in no hurry to go back if they didn't have to. Hence, labor shortage if your job wasn't terribly fulfilling to start with.

We also need lettuce pickers, cleaning ladies, fast food workers, etc. None of which require a grasp on English, and none of which Americans really want to do, no matter what you pay them.

1. The Biden admin admitted they let in 1m, excluding got-aways and kids. In reality, its 5m based on CBP data.

2. OK, we disagree on the cause of the reduced participation rate. Retirees are not in the equation, nor are open jobs to fill.
"Labor force participation includes working-age adults who are either working or looking for work."

3. It wasn't a "Trump plague", Trump's "Warp Speed" saved millions of lives. Fau-Chi paid the Wuhan Lab to do "gain-of-function? research on bat viruses, and that was the cause of the Covid pandemic. Covid was funded even though the Obama admin told Fau-Chi to stop GOF research. 25,000 homicides a year? In those lawless democrat run urban plantations.

4. You need to explain why you call Covid a "Trump plague" because he had nothing to do with the Wuhan Lab, duh. Just more LIES.

5. OK, all we need to do is give some of those 5m new migrants work permits to fill low-skill jobs.

6. No migrants were sent home, duh.

1. The Biden admin admitted they let in 1m, excluding got-aways and kids. In reality, its 5m based on CBP data.

Actually, it's a lot less than that... because a lot of those 5MM are the same people who keep getting caught. So we catch 5 MM, 4 million are sent back. 1 MM are awaiting hearings where they will eventually be sent back. Just not seeing a problem here.

2. OK, we disagree on the cause of the reduced participation rate. Retirees are not in the equation, nor are open jobs to fill.

Uh, yeah, now you are getting into crazy conspiracy theories. The consensus of scientists is that Covid-19 (AKA TRUMP PLAGUE) developed in nature and jumped from animals to humans.

4. You need to explain why you call Covid a "Trump plague" because he had nothing to do with the Wuhan Lab, duh. Just more LIES.

Because Trump's criminal incompetence led to a virus that could have been easily contained to a national plague that killed 1 million people.

5. OK, all we need to do is give some of those 5m new migrants work permits to fill low-skill jobs.

Works for me.

6. No migrants were sent home, duh
Other than the ones who were.

1. You keep saying that migrants are sent back, but you don't post any links proving it. If I give you partial credit its because of Title-42, they were sent back during the pandemic, but a judge struck that down, so they are NOT being sent back to Mexico.

2. Your link says "science", but its a "for profit". It says there is "evidence" but doesn't have any "evidence", there is no animal that links the virus from bats to humans. I call bullshit.
The virus came from bats native to an area 800 miles from Wuhan.
The NIH fessed up that they paid the Wuhan Lab for GOF research, QED.
The GOP House WILL investigate the origins of Covid.

3. What Trump criminal incompetence? Was he prosecuted? You're hallucinating. Your TDS got the better of you. Developing a Covid vaccine in 10-months that Fau-Chi said would take 4-years? The only criminal was Fau-Chi who PAID for the GOF research, after being told to stop.

Liars' Poker

This contradicts the educated snobs' meme that automation will reduce the number of workers needed, which has always been true to the extent that nullifies the need for immigrants, including the anti-American H1Bs. Race traitors are in a conflict with smug Diploma Dumbos who blindly believe that they themselves will never be replaced by automation.

1. You keep saying that migrants are sent back, but you don't post any links proving it. If I give you partial credit its because of Title-42, they were sent back during the pandemic, but a judge struck that down, so they are NOT being sent back to Mexico.
Title 42 only applied to asylum seekers... regular illegals are still sent back when they are caught.

2. Your link says "science", but its a "for profit". It says there is "evidence" but doesn't have any "evidence", there is no animal that links the virus from bats to humans. I call bullshit.

You can babble that all day, the science says otherwise.

The virus came from bats native to an area 800 miles from Wuhan.

And were killed and imported to Wet Markets in Wuhan. Funny thing, the Chinese will eat just about anything.

The GOP House WILL investigate the origins of Covid.

And they will look REALLY STUPID when they do it. What's obvious about the people like you who spew conspiracy theories is you are piss ignorant about science and medicine. So when we get these MD's and PhD's who know what they are talking about vs. some inbred Republican Congressman who doesn't it, it will be comedy gold.

Why do you put those weird headlines before your brain-drippings? Automation has been reducing certain jobs for decades, and creating new jobs.

H-1B's are awesome. Frankly, a lot of white people are kind of awful, while immigrants have nothing but my admiration.
