I don't think that these legislators believe their own bills will work, and I'm sure they know they won't be effective at anything, but it sounds nice to the people that have been conditioned to believe that guns are the only problem. It makes them look concerned to their supporters who apparently believe that violence somehow resides in a piece of metal and not in their offspring. It also comes in handy when the next confused socialmediapath on behavior drugs shoots someone up they can say 'the republicans stopped us again', and apparently it works. Politics of fear.

No, the first federal court to get a case filed would declare it unconstitutional. Precedence carries a lot of weight, even with liberal federal judges appointed by Biden and Obama. That is all that is needed for a state law.
