Sorry whiners, what happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?

I went into the US Army in 1966. Pay for a Private was $91.50 per month. During one of our first "meetings" on the PT field, in nice rows, a fellow Private asked a question (stupid kid) when asked by our DI if we had any questions. He shouted, "how can I support a wife on what I'm being paid"? The DI, (Sgt. Taiam), without batting an eye shouted back at him, "IF THE ARMY WANTED YOU TO HAVE A WIFE, THEY WOULD GIVE YOU ONE"!

I too was a bit put off by the pay cut I had to take from my civilian career they offered us something like $30.00 a month more for one jump every three months so I said to myself, heck, I can do that!

Why are they not personally responsible for their financial position just like anyone else? Beginning pay today is quite good.

If someone is planning on joining the military and has a wife and a couple of kids, maybe they should do some better planning.

The numbers of service members that need assistance is going down from an all time high under Obama the magic Kenyan....most of these cases are in very expensive locations where the troops have to find housing off base because they want their family with them....nothing new here...at all...don't lose your beans over it Candyporn....

Ridiculous only during republican administrations? Barry Hussein used to brag about how many new families (including Military) applied for food stamps every month and nobody seemed to be bothered by it.

Back in the 60s Deputy Sheriffs could get free food from the welfare Dept. None of us did, but could have. We made $100 a week, the state took out 15.00 for retirement the Gove took 12 out for FICA that left 67.00. Now rents were about 75.00 and well you get the idea. Many had second jobs to make a living.

I suggest closing bases in Germany we really don't need them. The Dependent living off base could just return to the states and buy a home. The gov would save and the housing mkt would go up.

--------------------------------- I don't hate or even dislike USA Military VOLUNTEERS but I see a trend for many years since 9-11 and that trend is to make Special people of USA Military and civilian authority . To me that's a dangerous trend because both classes of Military and civilian authority work for government and they work for money , favors and will do as they are told by government and they'll do the work for money and favors . Same as in the old days of kings , knights and the Elite Candy .
