march 15 2025 Police in Austin, Texas arrested a suspect Friday following a 17-vehicle crash that left five people dead, including a child and an infant.

Solomun Araya, 37, is now facing five counts of Intoxication Manslaughter and two counts of Intoxication Assault following the massive pileup late Thursday night in the North Austin area. Police said Araya is being held at the Travis County Jail.

Austin-Travis County EMS previously said several people were “pinned in their vehicles” following the wreck, which involved a semi-truck and also left 12 people injured. A police spokesperson told Fox News Digital that Araya was driving the truck.

Tennessee has been in the news most of last year, with troopers charging people with DUI, but their blood tests proving they had not been near a drop of alcohol in over 24 hours before stop or accident, the state sticking to the charges up to trial, (where charges got tossed), forcing up to tens of thousands of dollars on innocent defendants, force to hire lawyers to defend. Then having to bring a lawsuit against the state to recover monetary damages due to trial, the state proceeded to prosecute months after state attorneys had blood test evidence, the charges would not stand up in court. Texas may be different and all their troopers totally honest and above board at all times.

At this time, blood alcohol levels have not been released, pending trial.
