Middle School ordered to tear down brand new bleachers

So, why have something nice a shiny new for the boys, but not for the girls? Either you upgrade both sets, or none.

The boys and the girls have the exact same facilities, the only difference is that one field had better seats to enable the spectators to see the game. The solution to that is to allow the girls to use the same field, not force the boys to go backwards.

I wouldnt have a problem with the girls using the same field if scheduling allowed, and as long as it didnt require moving bases, changing the pitchers mound and all that crap.
The proper way to handle would have been to tell the complainers that they are perfectly welcome to raise money and build their own bleachers.

or perhaps to build the bleachers to code in the first place ....

Because the boys themselves and their parents raised the funds to purchase them AND performed the labor to have them installed.

Shouldn't the concern be why the girls and the parents of the girls did NOT do the same and, instead, the hard work of the boys was tossed in the garbage?

What lesson does that teach?

If others work harder than you, do not fret. The government will make sure those hard workers do not get to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Sure. That's the way to bring America back to greatness.

From the OCR report it appears that seating was not the focal point of the complaint but rather the fields, the locker rooms, and score board. The district or the school is clearly at fault in allowing the sports facilities for boys to be upgrade without addressing the facilities for the girls. The district should have upgraded the facilities for the girls.

You are correct.
In essence - since the school cannot afford to fix both, and since the girls team highly likely does not need the size seating/facilities that the boys team needs - no matter.
The answer - everyone loses. The true leftist answer to everything.

Anytime you see stories like this that come out of Fox News, you have to go to the source documents to learn the truth. In this case, it's a letter from the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS, REGION XV dated Oct 13, 1913. The letter addresses a complaint that alleged that the District is denying equal athletic opportunity to female students at Plymouth High School (the School) because it does not provide the girls’ high school softball team with locker rooms and practice and competitive facilities that are equivalent to those provided to the boys’ baseball team.

The OCR investigated the complaint but made no recommendation or ruling. The district however agreed that some changes listed in the complaint were needed.

According to investigation report, the bleacher in question is a portable stand on the freshmen softball field. It allows for a seating capacity of 25 people although the picture of the bleacher is shot with a wide area lens to make it appear much larger.

The district decided to renovate the freshmen softball field which included moving the portable bleachers not tearing them down
.

As is often the case when Fox News investigate the big bad federal government attacking local communities, the facts simply don't support the Fox News story.

Exactly. The source is very questionable.

Yep. The source gave a completely skewed, incorrect, self serving version of the story. What a surprise.

Sort of.. watch where that money goes. The true leftist answer is to destroy everything they can't steal for themselves.

I didnt see anything in the article about giving them the chance to make them to code.
From what I understand they needed a wheel chair ramp. Easy enough.

Stop using the code BS to justify your attempts to take away from others because it's "Not Fair"

Yeah, yeah
you should ALWAYS check the codes BEFORE you build.
They didn't.
Now their whining that "big government" is at fault - not their own failure to check the codes.

Pathetic

Are you some kind of dumbfuck? If you get a recall notice on your car you dont trash the whole car....YOU FIX IT!!!
Installing a wheel chair ramp would be an easy fix. This is nothing more then sour grapes from the lazy fucks who represent the girls softball team.

This is always what you get when a hyper-partisan hacks reports on some little story. They leave out key pieces of the story in order to whip up the faithful.

But when you check under the hood, and see the whole story, it's nowhere near what was reported by the hyper-partisan.

Build your crap to code - it really is THAT simple.

Why do you need to build wheel chair ramps to put them up in the bleachers when the ground behind the baseline fences are perfectly acceptable locations for wheel chair bound viewers? Ridiculous to assume you have to have a "special" spot for wheel chairs on a school bleacher.

Build a wheelchair ramp is really simple. Easier to do then tearing down the bleachers.

According to the law when booster clubs or other fundraising organizations, which may or may not be sponsored by the district, provide benefits or services that assist only teams of one sex, the district must ensure that teams of the other sex receive equivalent benefits and services. If booster clubs provide benefits and services to athletes of one sex that are greater than what the district is capable of providing to athletes of the other sex, then the district must take action to ensure that benefits and services are equivalent for both sexes. The district should have either budgeted money to upgraded the girls facilities or not allowed the parents to upgrade the boys facilities. It's the responsibility of the district to see that equivalent facilities or benefits are provided for the boys and girls.

The OCR made no recommendations or ruling. Before the investigations was completed, the district decided to renovate the School’s varsity softball field and to include a scoreboard and seating equivalent to what is provided at the School’s varsity baseball field; and provide the School’s girls’ lacrosse team with access to an on-campus practice facility equivalent to that provided to the boys’ lacrosse team.

As far as I'm concerned they dont need a wheelchair ramp. But if thats what it takes to keep the bleachers I would have done it just for spite.
And of course I would have offered advice and methods used to make the money to the girls softball team boosters. Hell, once they raised enough money and bought the materials I would have offered to help build em.

Disability accommodations in stands depends on the number seats. Since there are so few seats, I don't think there would be any disability requirements.

I agree - pretty darn stupid to not check the codes BEFORE you build something.

But they can always raise a big stink about "big gubmint" in order to distract people from holding them accountable for their own stupidity. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this approach.

It always seems to work the mouth-breathers up into a frenzy - until someone actually checks under the hood and learns the FULL story.

How many highschool bleachers could America have bought with the $4t squandered on Iraq over lies?
None. It would be an illicit expenditure.

But the next time high schools become a threat to our National Interests, we'll keep that in mind.

Seems stupid. Why not use the same field for boys and girls games unless they are going on simultaneously?
Whoaaaa, I like it!!!!! Play two games on the same field AT THE SAME TIME! That would put some excitement back into the game. Of course, my suggestion doesn't compete with George Carlin's suggestion that baseball/softball would be more exciting if you mined the outfield, but then again, I'm no George Carlin.
