I know someone who had one black great-grandfather - everyone else white. She looks 100% white, and she always considered herself white.

She was a decent high school student, but nothing exceptional. B’s for the most part. She applied to Tier 2 colleges, and was rejected across the board.

Then she decided to apply again, to different - and more competitive - schools, but this time, check the black box.

She got accepted to every one.
