Carlos Slim, one of the wealthiest men in the world, owns a share of the NYT and a huge chunk of Televisa, the largest Spanish-speaking mass media outlet in the world. This includes Telemundo, a TV channel watched by millions here in the USA.
There has been a history of discord between Slim and Trump so numerous suggestions that Slim is somehow behind the attacks is not out of bounds.
All I have are hints and suggestions so time will tell if something appears to confirm this idea.
