Metaphorically speaking, the car keys have been found in the frig again.

YOu are voting to turn our country back into a dictatorship, escaping which if you'll remember was the whole reason this country was started.
/---/ Why didn't Trump turn us into a dictatorship when he was in office for 4 years? Do you ever think before posting, or do you just cut and paste from your list of CNN talking points?

The other people in his administration tempered his fascist ambitions.

They are all gone now.
/----/ Got any proof too back that up? And since when do dictators wannbes let underlings temper their goals? You're just pulling crap out of your azz and posting it hoping someone will believe it, you blithering idiot.

Institutional resiliency of democratic norms. But look what happened in the years since he was voted out. His Court has conveyed immunity on the prez for crimes. Something he will no doubt exploit if he is re-elected. A conservative think tank has issued a blueprint for a government takeover by conservatives representing a minority view on issues.

Let me ask you, do you not see parallels between this list and trumpery?

1. Powerful, often exclusionary, populist nationalism centered on cult of a redemptive, “infallible” leader who never admits mistakes.
2. Political power derived from questioning reality, endorsing myth and rage, and promoting lies.
3. Fixation with perceived national decline, humiliation, or victimhood.
4. White Replacement “Theory” used to show that democratic ideals of freedom and equality are a threat. Oppose any initiatives or institutions that are racially, ethnically, or religiously harmonious.
5. Disdain for human rights while seeking purity and cleansing for those they define as part of the nation.
6. Identification of “enemies”/scapegoats as a unifying cause. Imprison and/or murder opposition and minority group leaders.
7. Supremacy of the military and embrace of paramilitarism in an uneasy, but effective collaboration with traditional elites. Fascists arm people and justify and glorify violence as “redemptive”.
8. Rampant sexism.
9. Control of mass media and undermining “truth”.
10. Obsession with national security, crime and punishment, and fostering a sense of the nation under attack.
11. Religion and government are intertwined.
12. Corporate power is protected and labor power is suppressed.
13. Disdain for intellectuals and the arts not aligned with the fascist narrative.
14. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Loyalty to the leader is paramount and often more important than competence.
15. Fraudulent elections and creation of a one-party state.
16. Often seeking to expand territory through armed conflict.

/----/ How does one comment on stupid, tin foil hat posts other than mocking them?

Trump’s Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age

Former President Donald J. Trump vividly recounted how the audience at his climactic debate with Vice President Kamala Harris was on his side. Except that there was no audience. The debate was held in an empty hall. No one “went crazy,” as Mr. Trump put it, because no one was there.

Anyone can misremember, of course. But the debate had been just a week earlier and a fairly memorable moment. And it was hardly the only time Mr. Trump has seemed confused, forgetful, incoherent or disconnected from reality lately. In fact, it happens so often these days that it no longer even generates much attention.

He rambles, he repeats himself, he roams from thought to thought — some of them hard to understand, some of them unfinished, some of them factually fantastical. He voices outlandish claims that seem to be made up out of whole cloth. He digresses into bizarre tangents about golf, about sharks, about his own “beautiful” body. He relishes “a great day in Louisiana” after spending the day in Georgia. He expresses fear that North Korea is “trying to kill me” when he presumably means Iran. As late as last month, Mr. Trump was still speaking as if he were running against President Biden, five weeks after his withdrawal from the race.

Trump’s Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age

The article goes on to explain the NYT did a computerized analysis of Don's speaking pattern comparing speeches from as far back as 2015 to now. The results would be concerning to family members if this were a person showing this degree of cognitive decline. This person is running to be the prez.

But I don't want to get bogged down by citing all the examples in the research piece. I want to focus on this...... In fact, it happens so often these days that it no longer even generates much attention. Specifically this.........

Trump Speaks of Nonexistent Debate ‘Audience,’ Says ‘They Went Crazy’
Trump Speaks of Nonexistent Debate ‘Audience,’ Says ‘They Went Crazy’

We've become accustomed (not a good thing) to trump's endless, disorienting, litany of lies. Referring to a non-existent debate crowd feels different. Has his decline advanced to the point where his imagination allows him create a more comforting reality? One where an audience that wasn't there supported him. Perhaps filling a psychological need because he knows how badly the debate went for him.

The reason for the delusion matters less than the fact it happened. This is not a time when we can ignore it because...."it happens so often these days." This is a time when we need to pay attention.
I have a spot right next to the butter closet just for my keys!
