Metalic Hydrogen

This could be great. We really need to explore our space and get off this planet.
Won't work if the amount of energy needed put into forcing hydrogen to a metallic state (like in the center of a star) is more than the energy you get back out of it.
It will work if it gives us fuel that revolutionizes space travel and that is one of the the things they say it might do.

Here's one sobering (nerdy) analysis made a week later ("Feb 3, 2017")(skip ahead to second half):

If they'd actually succeeded there'd be more news about it by now.. Such pronouncements are a dime a dozen. They're after more funding is the only solid conclusion.

Gunny, we're not going anywhere. Do you know how long it took Voyager to leave our solar system?

Eleven years. And Alpha Centauri is 4 light years away. The next closest star. At our speed, that's what, a few lifetimes.
