I believe both of them will be multi millionaires when their parents pass someday. So I'm going to spend up every bit of my money before I go. I'm going to retire at 60 or 62, and assume I won't live beyond 20 years. That should give me $50,000 a year to live on not counting social security. I could live off the interest or live off the interest PLUS tap into the principle too every year.

My one buddy who doesn't have kids says it's stupid to just live off the interest if you don't have kids. Who are you leaving the money to?

I'm fortunate I don't have kids. If I did I would probably fall in the median.

This could be my bio! "W" turned me off so much, I was so done! The stock market crashed in 2001, I was losing $$ in my investments every quarter anyway, so at 45 I started giving my $$ away; downpayments on 2 people's homes, furnishing in another! Men in my family usually don't get anywhere near retirement so I started taking it easy! Just doing short-term contract work in computers & only consulting half the year! I didn't have any kids, but a cousin gave birth to triplets so I moved to be close to her to help out! They needed "around the clock" care as preemies! They cost a lot, buying 3 of everything! Lucky I had the disposable income to help out! They're all graduated from college & no debt hanging over their heads! Not looking to be a millionaire! Why save it? Whenever I think of acquiring $$, I'm usually thinking of who to give it to! At 68, living ok on my meager Soc. Sec. & a small stipend to keep food on the table & pay expenses!

It's healthcare costs. You have to consider your healthcare costs are going to go up.

I live in a condo that's paid off on the lake. But dues go up over time. Got to consider my low HOA now might go up. Or we get assessed for things that need to be done like new garages, new sea wall, new wall, new roof. Taxes are low because I bought it for $60K in the 90's.

I have a boat. Storage, upkeep, etc. I don't want to have to give up the boat.

Hunting is expensive. I want to be able to hunt.

I go to Florida every year during the winter. This year a retired teacher said "I'm not going to Florida this year. It's too expensive" I want to be able to get out of Michigan in the winter.

Other than these things, I'm pretty frugal.
