The megalodon shark is one of the most mysterious and elusive prehistoric animals in the world. The fossils have been found throughout many areas of the world, including North America, Europe, Africa, and Australia. Here are some interesting facts about the Megalodon Shark.

Grew Up To 60 Feet Long
Megalodon can reach 50-60 feet in length and has an estimated maximum weight of more than 60 tons. It is the largest known shark in the history of the earth. Since shark skeletons are made of cartilage that doesn’t fossilized easily, scientists just have the teeth to go on when estimating maximum size.

Giant Teeth
Although most adult megalodon teeth are between 4-5 inches in size, there are some huge fossil teeth that exceed 7 inches. The largest verifiable Megalodon tooth is a 7.48 inches tooth found in Peru. By comparison, the biggest teeth of the biggest great white sharks are only about three inches long.

Had The Most Powerful Bite
Researchers estimate the Megalodon’s bite force between 24,000 to 40,000 pounds. This is 6-10 times that of the Great White shark and modern crocodiles. This enormous bite force could literally bite a small whale in half.
